Commercial Description:
American Style barleywine: so named because of its high, wine-like alcohol content and the usage of American hops. Deep amber in color and full bodied, with a blend of fruitiness, maltiness and hop bitterness to balance.

Bottle; pours an orange tinted brown color w/ a light brown head. Aroma was of caramel malt, pine, fruit, spices, and wood/oak. Nice mouthfeel; slightly syrupy. Flavor was very complex; definitely a sipper, not only because of the alcohol, but to pick up the complexities. Flavors of caramel, fruit, toffee, spice, wood, nuts and vanilla. Really enjoyable.

Hazy mahogany pour, smallish head with some lacing and retention. Aroma is wood, caramel, light resin hops. Medium to heavy body, somewhat sweet, soft mouthfeel. Got better as the bottle emptied. I usually don’t like this type of BW, but this wasn’t a bad example.

Amber brown with a huge thick head that made funny shapes as it colapsed. Just some malts in the aroma. The flavor is slightly woody with a lot of malts and a generous dose of hops.

Bottle that I got from someone at the Knoxville tasting some 3-4 months ago. Thanks whoever it was. Pours out a dark brown color with a thick brown head on it. Smell is full of what smells like maple syrup, and sweet caramel. Some wood / vanilla smells too. Taste is sweet and the maple syrup aspect really punches through then. Not really very hoppy, but not too bad actually. I dont know if I would drink it again, but its worth trying. A little too sweet overall for me.

Love barleywines. This was very enjoyable. Deep mahogany body sat under a frothy beige head. Notes of maple syrup, caramel, chocolate, plums, nuts, yeast, Angustora bitters, and alcohol. Approaching full-bodied with a raspy texture to it. Essences in the aroma carry to the taste, with the warm alcohol feel at the end. I’m impressed.

Tasted 6/26/07. 750ml bottle. Ruby garnet hue. Slight ring of off-white head. Aromas of dark fruit and raisins. Burnt sugar and vanilla. Cherries and toffee. Spicy cinnamon. Slight burn in the nose. Sliky smooth and full bodied. Little to no effervescence but a coating stickiness on the gums. Big alcohol presence but muddled. Woody oaky vanilla flavors. Big malts. Raisins and plums. Cherries and red berries. Bready cocoa. Sweet fruity malts. Good burn...Second glass. More granular in the glass but no added difference in the head or aroma. Palte has evolved though. Dark bready malt notes with nuamces of toffee and light roasted coffee. Nice rolling of flavors. Definitely malt driven but with a noticeable hop finish. Total sipper. Just noticed a cola note followed by a caramel and burnt toffee flavor. Tons of flavors repeating. This lasted 3 glasses and almost two hours. WOW! Nothing earth shattering, but if a one beer night holds this, count me in!

Bottle: Pours a hazy copper color with a light tan head. Aroma, caramel, spices, some alcohol. Flavor, spice, caramel earthy notes and some molasses. Better than some of their other brews.

From a twelve ounce bottle purchased in Covington, Kentucky - A good beer, but very smooth & foral for a Barleywine.
