Poured a dark, dark brown (almost black color) with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, roast, bourbon, stronger woodiness, and some vanilla. Tastes of the same stronger woodiness, bourbon, vanilla, some dark fruitiness, and roast. Dark fruits came out more as this warmed up. The bourbon was a little stronger in the tastes where the aromas had a stronger woodiness. Never would have guessed 11% - hidden with a nice and smooth/creamy body. However I saw how few ratings this had and felt I needed to throw in my two cents. Growler from Party Town, KY. This was far superior to its non-barrel aged brother the RIP. The oak and bourbon really added to the complexity without over powering it in any way. Very silky and creamy mouth feel. Full bodied. The aroma was fine with a noticeable hint of vanilla to go with the roasted malt, and sweet caramel and candy. Not strong smelling in any way and pleasant. The flavor was also improved from the regular RIP by the additional flavors of vanilla, & bourbon/alcohol, on top of the roasted semi-sweet malts and caramels. Good stuff. Heavy roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of long duration. This is a standout porter.
