Jul 25, 2005 Mahogany body with a creamy tan head and good lacing as it descends down the glass. The aroma is a nice blend of coffee and chocolate with a malty sweetness and dried fruit. Medium body and a tad watery. The flavor was clean and smooth with nice notes of all the aroma elements. Well made brew. Thanks, Kevin.

Jun 24, 2005 12 oz bottle consumed in Lexington Ky - Poured dark brown, ruby highlits and a nice tan creamy head that lingers and laces, Aroma is of coffee and slight chocolate. Flavor is about the same. Just like the altbier that I tried by this brewer this has a funky metallic aftertaste. I wonder if it isn’t the Louisville water. It did have a nice bitter finish though. On the palate this is fairly full bodied and has a creamy mouthfeel. Decent porter.

Jun 18, 2005 On tap at their Cincinnati Airport location. Dark, ruby red/brown fading to black pour with a light byt active off-white head which leaves luxurious lacing. Fresh lake water aroma with a touch of roasted coffee. Flavor has a delecrtable bitterness to it with roasted coffee notes, bittersweet chocolate and a touch of mint - a houst taste perhaps - seem to find it in all their beers. Creamy, thick, mouthfeel. Above average brewpub porter.

Jun 16, 2005 A deep black with a thin deep tan head. The aroma was of roasted malts but with a bit of bitter notes. Smooth chocolatey taste with a nice roasted malt finish and a slight bitter ting of hop mixed in.

May 24, 2005 Black with thin head, some lacing. Dark roasted aromas linger above the beer, and in the aftertaste. I could taste some chocolate maltiness, but hop bitterness and heavy roasted malt overpowers. Not a bad porter, but not exceptional.

May 14, 2005 Near opaque with lots of cranberry highlights and no head. Aroma is, well, nothing to speak of really. Watery and thin throughout. Bottle marked best by December ’04 so product shouldn’t have completely fallen apart so soon, right? Puzzling. Edit to say: I can’t believe this schwill was my 100th rating!! Arghhh!!! Oh well, come on 200!!

Apr 26, 2005 On tap at Cincy airport. Deep ebony beer with a thin film of an off-white head. Over carbonated. Off metallic flavor that may be due to a dirty tap. Also a diacetyl buttery note. Some burnt chocolate flavor, but I couldn’t finish this one.
