Well balanced but thin on flavor. Roasty & chocolatey; dry finish & roasted malt flavored aftertaste. lighter medium body & carbonation, dry m/f. Thin & unexciting...bland but not bad or offensive. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 24, 2004 Pretty standard issue stuff. A dark brown/black appearance with a moderate head. The usual porter characteristics are present (Chocolate, coffee, roasted malt) and not much else. It was pretty good but nothing to get too excited about. barenada (211), Georgetown, Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 26, 2004 Updated: Jan 19, 2005(draft) This beer that I didn’t care for a year ago has either been changed or (more likely) my own tastes have changed. I found this to be a very good porter, even with the slight bitterness to the finish. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 18, 2004 Bottled. Very creamy head, lots of lacing, near-black and thick body. Smooth nose, mix of robust malt, chocolate and a hint of wine. Very slick on the tongue as well, chocolaty, full, roasty and lightly bitter at the end. Quite well made, though not extremely creative. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 13, 2004 Dark, little head. Great nose, roasty and bitter, mild tobacco smokiness. Lightly roasty flavor, mild sweetness, and a bit of smoke finished off with good bitterness at the end. Quite drinkable. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 11, 2004 Appearance: tawny brown color, with a large, puffy, cocoa-colored head that softly, beautifully crumbles down.
Aroma: a perfect, subtle blend of chocolate, coffee, cream, with a hint of nuts on the side, and a fair whiff of bitterness.
Taste: mouth-filling on first sip and swallow, engulfs the realm of senses, full-bodied, dark, delicious. Excellent texture, big, and giving, while taking, a perfect pull and play on the mouth and tongue.
Rolls around inside, bounces and bumps, takes it’s sweet time, and absolutely satisfactory.
Eternal, lush, rewarding chocolatey finish, with some fruity notes jutting in at the end.
One entirely excellent porter, not too bitter, and not too sweet. Goes down good as gravy. I would have this often, if I could.

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jun 28, 2004 There wasn’t a lot to the smell. The appearance was beautiful...a dark body with a tan head. The flavor was that of a mild porter. The subtle-nutty, coffee taste was delectible. daalamar (403), bardstown, Kentucky, USA
