ThaBobfather (130), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA May 17, 2008 Bought this in a growler. It’s got a very smooth taste with some coffee and chocolate. Smells delicious and has many quality taste notes. Love the bourbon.
TheOrange (352), Kent, Ohio, USA Oct 5, 2008 This was recommend to me by the guy stocking the shelves at the grocery store. Pretty good pick on his part. The pour is Nice and black, the brownish ring of bubbles takes place of the head I was expecting. The aroma is dominated by coffee charactered malts. There are a few The beer has less body then I had expected to, there are also to many bubbles for my taste. Now for the nice words: The malts are nice and roasted, there are hints of chocolate and coffee. The overall experience of the extra flavors is a little sweet. Very enjoyable. CharlesDarwin (1412), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 30, 2008 12oz Bottle. Thanks Sean! Solid roast nose. Bits of cocoa nib, sweet honey, and glazed figs. Simple, plain, but solid. Pours a dark, dark mahogany with maple fringes and a thin rim in white. Flavor is thin, hot, and meaty. A bit of high sweet floral characters, a bit of barrel char and some boozy. Sloppy. I like the touch of oak mingled with some of the roast characte, but really, this is all over the map. A touch of cherry on the backend. Meh. hellbilly (909), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Sep 29, 2008 bottled november 2007 from StFun... pours almost opaque black after the gunk at the bottom is added with reddish brown at the edges. small light tan head fades to absolutely nothing in under two minutes. chocolate malty aroma with mild woody smokiness, bourbon caramel and barrel spice. a slight smokiness carries over to the flavor as well... chocolate, grassy hops, coffee, wood, bourbon, caramel, spice and a very pleasant warm aftertaste of high quality bourbon which takes me to that special place... i’m back... and sad from the light body and extremely disappointing watery thin mouth feel. it does have a smooth texture but i think that’s mainly the low carbonation... michaelvern (5), Ohio, USA does not count Sep 20, 2008 Pours black with tan head - aroma of stout and bourbon - taste of chocolate and coffee - smooth going down - all in all, a very good beer. xmarcnolanx (680), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Sep 19, 2008 Aroma is thick, creamy chocolate, some oak, molasses, soy characters.
Taste is bits of bourbon, chocolate, a little sourness and roasty characters, and not much else. Not extremely complex, but okay.
I don’t get the extreme hate for this beer, but then again I have been congested all week.
Solid, but not amazing.
Palate is thin and fizzy and somewhat dry.
No legs to speak off, slight ring around the glass head, dark black color.
