Arayaga2 (932), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 7, 2009 Headless ruby black, and does not transmit light. Malty pruney aroma without much of the typical roast.. Taste, on the other hand is very roasty, with lots of coffee and intense finishing bitterness. Mouthfeel is still, and semi-oily, and makes for a feeling of the beer being about 10F warmer than it is. $6/12oz coyotehunter (542), , Michigan, USA Oct 14, 2009 One of the more unspectacular Impy stouts Ive had...Pours deep chocolate brown with not even a breath of head. Oily and viscous. Aromas lead me to belive that there are chocolate and dark fruits in here. Im not let down but the lack of hops is underwhelming to say the least. Its not a bad beginner Imperial stout....rather smooth and chocolatey, but a tad watery and unexciting.Thers pretty much no alcohol noticed so thats a plus I suppose depending how you look at it. meh. mreusch (714), Olathe, Kansas, USA Oct 8, 2009 12oz. bottle, with thanks to Glouglouburp! Pours dark brown/black with a large tan head. Aroma is big roasty malts, molasses, milk chocolate and some coffee roast. Flavor is more roasted malts, chocolate, and molasses. Nothing too fancy here, but good execution and enjoyable on a cool fall evening. Thanks Dany! yobdoog (1420), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Aug 25, 2009 This one ages quite well. I recently had a batch 1, I guess over a year old and it was syrupy malty goodness with a nice bite still. Big coffee and dark cocoa roast. Not overly complex, really drinkable and masks the abv. quite well. markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Aug 15, 2009 Thanks to mikey711 for this extra. Pours jet black with a slight off-white head. Nose is roast, dark chocolate, and a slight booziness. Flavor is deep roast complimented by sweet chocolate and a dry finish. Silky mouthfeel and a lingering bitterness show how nice this 10% RIS is. Like a lighter, younger sister of Cigar City’s IRIS. BMan1113VR (2755), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Aug 10, 2009 Bottle thanks to my Secret Santa. 12 ozs, and I can hear the song now. Really full bottle filling. Deep brown, near black pour with a hint of a tan head that fades quick. Aroma of coffee, vanilla, chocolate, and a bit of licorice. Some fusel and earth notes as well. Taste is earthy and a bit bitter with chocolate, dirt and not much else. Some earthy hops and coffee rinds. Not a lot going on, but I must say, the ABV, does hide itself decently. Medium thickness, light brandy alcohol note. Light bubbles. Decent, no more, no less. piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Jul 13, 2009 Bottled sample via and shared with oakbluff. Black in colour with moderate carbonation. Malt centred aromas, with elements of dried fruit, fudge, and toasted nuts. Pale and caramel malts dominate in the flavor department, along with some mild coffee and chocolate notes, and a hint of green hoppiness. Moderate bitterness, and medium bodied. Ticks all the boxes stylistically, but it’s sort of muted overall. Not bad. chronictonic (399), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 9, 2009 Tap @ Theresa’s - black pour - no head. Very little aroma - looks like black water. Very fine carbonation - flavor is licorice and black malt. Lacks some robustness and overall body.
