Commercial Description:
This Russian Imperial Stout is an intensely flavorful beer. Chocolaty, roasty, fruity, and bittersweet, with a hidden alcohol presence. This beer was designed to be sipped slowly on a cool evening in a nice cognac glass. Let it warm up to get the full flavor. This beer won Best in Show at the 2005 NJ State Fair when Brian was homebrewing.

12oz bottle, courtesy of yobdoog. Thanks, Trever! Pours a murky, dark chocolate color; thin, medium tan head with patchy lacing. Lots of nougat, chocolate, and oily nuttiness in the aroma; minimal alcohol; bitter chocolate, roasted malts; reasonable imperial stout nose. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy nougat, dark and milk chocolates, roasted malts, and oily nuttiness; solid imperial stout core; basic, drinkable, pleasant. Solid maltiness. Lengthy finish: dark, bitter chocolate, nougat, and roasted / charred malts; minimal alcohol.

Bottle: Dark pour, near opaque with a rich brown head. Aroma has some cereal oats, espresso, licorice and some mild booze/alcohol. Mouthfeel is chewy and never sticky; just creamy and luxurious. Flavor has a solid roasted malt presence. There’s some creamy chocolate, rolled oats, spicy licorice and a touch of espresso into the bitter/roasted long finish with a solid hop bite. The alcohol is well hidden and it’s damn tasty. A rich & tasty yet easily drinkable Stout.

Thin brown head of fine bubbles. Sweet candy sugar aroma with some raisins and spicy hops. Black in color. Sweet and malty flavor with some ripe fruit, molasses, roasted grains and some bitter chocolate. Late swallow is a distinct licorice flavor. Alcohol is present but does not overpower. Kind of nasaly also. Little bit of piney hops. Finishes rich and strong and roasty. Slicky and oily mouthfeel. A decent impy.

Thanks to Paul for the bottle #2370. Poured medium-deep chestnut brown with a short cap of tan head. The aroma picked up drawn caramel and semi-sweet chocolate with shoots of tar and hefty doses of pine bitterness.. moderate roast and decent interaction between the sweetness and hoppage. The flavor found the pine and earthy bitterness that damn near outshined the malt bill.. roasted darker chocolates, caramel, and lesser molasses at the core with hot and heavy pine laced throughout.. really became too much and knocked it down a notch. Medium-plus bodied on the palate.. the high bitterness got in the way.. sticky and bitter on the finish. This didn’t do it for me.

This Imperial Stout pours a dark black color from a 120z bottle. Small sized tan foamy head. The aroma is chocolate and coffee. A medium to full bodied Imperial Stout. The malts are chocolate and coffee. The hops are earthy and floral. Nice balance. Very smooth tasting. Touch of alcohol bite. Touch of smoke at the finish. Nice Imperial Stout. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Pours a mostly opaque with dark mahogany edges and a nicely-lacing dark tan head. Complex aroma of sweet toasty dark caramel and chocolate malts with nice dark fruity character. Body starts fairly full and silky smooth with a nice earthy dark malty flavor and good roasty smoky flavor before a slightly warming, drier dark chocolatey finish. A nice imperial stout.
