jimmack (1212), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Mar 11, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Dark brown color with a small tan head. Aroma of dark roasted malts, coffee, some piney hops and a bit of chocolate. Flavor was much milder than the aroma. Light roasted malt flavor with a bit of black licorice and some floral hoppiness. Alcohol was barely detectable. While the flavors were somewhat muted, it actually made it a very easy drinking beer. It is rare that I can drink more than one impy stout at a time, but I could see myself drinking a few of these.
Glouglouburp (2006), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 11, 2008 In short: Another over-the-top American Imperial Stout. Brutal but enjoyable
How: Bottle 120z, dropped in my cooler by my buddy dmac. Dave’s the man
The look: Black body topped by a small tan head
In long: Nose is medium roastiness with some alcohol fumes. This beer is big, very big. A shitload of malts, figs and dates flavours, wood coal, tar, burnt toats, alcohol. Moderate sweetness, a bit syrupy. Finish has a strong bite where the alcohol and what appears to be a generous amount of hops. This beer is so big and brutal that I’m left wondering wether or not the name is a figure of speech.
tupalev (2311), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 28, 2008 Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, Jerc, Mabel, and GregClow, 3 (3!) bottles shared by Harry and the Blankster. Nice roasty, sweet aroma with some bourbon. Black, small tan head, looks good. Good taste - roasty, well balanced bourbon. Really nice finish, lots of roast, tons of flavour. I upgrade my earlier "good" comment - this is great! mabel (1662), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 13, 2008 [1521-20080711] Bottle. Dark roast wood aroma has a bit of peat and smoky moss. Dark brown black body with a quick light brown foamy head. Roasty dark malt flavour has lots of powdery charcoal-smoked wood. Full body. Long aftertaste of roasted wet wood.
(c/o blankboy & HogTownHarry, w/ them, GregClow, jerc, tupalev) blankboy (2625), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 6, 2008 Three bottles (12oz each) shared by me and HogTownHarry with GregClow, jerc, mabel & tupalev. Pours black with an average to large size frothy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt with notes of coffee and chocolate. Flavour of roasted malt, hops, some lactic notes and a roasty dry finish. Medium bodied. Pretty good, not a world-beater but a good, tasty beer. Underhook (143), Lincoln Park, New Jersey, USA Jul 26, 2008 Pours deep black, very little head. Mouthfeel spectacular and creamy like a good stout should be. Burnt, coffee, chocolate taste. Very good imperial stout but doesn’t quite match up with the top of the heap. Best beer I have had from High Point.
