| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2009 On tap at Bold City. It poured brilliant clear amber with white head. The aroma is roasty to burnt malts and really little else. The taste is malty sweet mixing with some crystal malts and a modest level of burnt malts as well. It ends with malt sweetness trying to compete with the layers of roasty goodness. Pretty darn roasty for a red ale. sebletitje (1925), Tampa, Florida, USA

Pours ruby/amber, beige head.
Aroma is malty, some caramel and hints of roast.
Flavor, malty, hints of chocolate, reminding me of lactic , milk chocolate, some roast with a light hoppy profile in the background.
This one and their coffee stout were my favorite of the whole selection. unclemattie (2416), Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 2, 2009 On tap @ Bold City. Dark amber, light brown color. Darker than expected. Very appealing appearance. Very deep roasted malt aroma. Flavor is very toasty. Not exactly a Red Ale. More of a light colored, full flavored Porter. Lots of toast and chocolate. Nicely balanced. 25 July 09 tarheels86 (761), Washington DC, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 12, 2009 On tap at the brewpub. Pours a deep muddy brown- not very red at all- with a thin cream head that leaves some okay lacing. Aroma is chocolate malt, rye bread, molasses, dark chocolate. Taste is roasty and chocolatey more akin to a porter than a red. 8% is very well hidden. Very good balancing hops. Very raw, unfiltered taste. The best of Bold City’s selection in my opinion. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 7, 2009 Sample from a growler at Grape and Gourmet in VA Beach. A Red Ale that was much more. Smokey, hoppy, nice toffee malt. Complex and tasty. GandGKevin (192), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 7, 2009 Growler courtesy of Immy. Thanks! It was the best beer at the tasting. Aromas of molasses, toffee, coffee and a little hint of smoke. Pours dark brown. Flavors along the same lines as the aromas and is simply delicious! A few folks were so impressed at the beer tasting that they are planning road trips to get more. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 3, 2009 On tap at the brewery. This was my clear favorite, and I drank WAY more of this than I should have... THEN bought a growler. Lightly hazed garnet with a beige head. Big malty nose, toasty and chocolaty . The flavor is excellent, a smokey, roasty, bready molasses amalgam that is insanely tasty. Very complex. The body is smooth and almost a bit oily slick. Absolutely delish. jcwattsrugger (5424), Florida and, New Jersey, USA
