Bold City Coconut Red Ale

Cask at the brewery tap room. The regular lineup Red Ale with real coconut added in the brew. Mahogany beer with a small tan head. Chocolate, coconut and hops in the aroma. Flavor is earthy chocolate, roasty but with the subtle coconut. Smooth and flavorful, but it seems to be an odd combination to me.

Cask at the brewery. This is the red ale base with coconut infused somehow....I’ll have to ask Brian how they made it. Pours a very deep, cloudy mahogany with no head. Aroma is chocolate malt, earthy hops, slight coconut puree. Taste is similar to the red ale (rye bread, dark chocolate, roast) plus some coconut milk. Creamy, silky on the palate. I think the coconut needs to be more powerful or perhaps it doesn’t really go well with the red...maybe with the coffee stout.
