Poured out of 750 mL bottle, bought at Stuffed Sandwich in San Gabriel, CA some time around 7/1/04. Pours a very dark, muddy orange-burgundy cranberry color. Slight, grayish-pink head with a very tiny whisp. Lacing is very dense in thin strips, awesome where it goes-- thin, finely sandy and dusty. Just a shame it doesn’t go everywhere with the same intensity. Aroma is light, dry and corky, spiced with a touch of nutmeg, very tart cherry and some wood. Very lovely. Flavor is tart to start, with dark cherry, a hint of dirt and moss, not enough funk. Still, it grows on you, but it’s a bit underwhelming. Body is slightly watery, a bit too slick. Finish is medium, nicely growing and dry at the end, but not dry enough to stack up to the best fruit lambics I’ve had. Simply not enough character or subtlety in this one, but it’s still pretty good. argo0 (7029), Washington DC, USA

Taste is minimally sweet, cherry, moderately sour, horseblanket. Watery, light-medium body, moderate acidity. This appears to be past its prime -- I would have liked to try it sooner. Many thanks to cquiroga for sharing it with me. pivo (2537), Germany

Cherry juice-like tastes up front, the a full sourness fills the mouth quickly and departs just as quick. Drying finihs. Full body and a great balance. Just simply a classy kriek! Dark ruby with a small reddened head. Strong barnyard, cherry, wood, light sweaty notes, damp basement, red wine, and cardboard make up the aroma. Taste is light spice, cherries, wood, sweat, leather, red wine and it's mellower than the aroma would have you believe. The sourness is controlled. It’s still there but not nearly as overpowering as I would expect it to be if fresh. Body is tart but only lightly acidic. Finish is coating of light cherry tartness with mild spice, red wine, and mild wood notes. Another great beer! lachesis (759), St Idesbald, Belgium

Nice sample from the 1983 vintage. Its 21 years old and it had these fine aroma’s of great Burgundy wine, type ’Burgundy IRANCY’ from the north. The color was like medium pink with a warm orange shine in it. The beer was a little hazy and had a small white head that was disappearing quick. This old kriek was very aromatic, and its inimitable bouquet was full with hints of red fruits, ( noorderkrieken )= sour cherry’s, ambrosial beetrooth, old Pinot Noir and some fresh mint. It had a marvallous sour flavour with a touch of mulberry and some pear in red wine with a tiny hint of clove. It had a very long afthertaste but the sourness was taking the upperhand in the end. It was a fine moment with a Great Ratebeerian and some fine beers.

Cork was in so tight nothing was getting into this bad boy. Poured a lovely garnet hue with a nice subdued pink head. The head dissapears. Looks quite like cranberry juice. Nose is excellent. Musty, bold like a merlot, full of cherries. Slight dustiness. On the palate this beverage really delivers. Mouthfeel is spritzy and coating all at once. Flavors are intensely cherrylike. Excellently sweet and only slightly tart. Aftertaste is lovingly funky. Like chewing on a tasty old barn door. A very masked bitterness hides on the back of this beast, slightly gray and cobwebby but also slightly hoppy in its attack. This beverage is excellent and has held together well through the years.

Fizzy, lightly pink head. Although the beer was more than 20 years old, the head was quite large, but disappeared fully after a while. Murky red body. Cherry aroma. Lightly sweet, heavily acidic, very well-balanced initial flavour. Lightly sweet, moderately bitter (long) finish. Light to medium bodied. Lively carbonation.
