Commercial Description:
Geuze, a mixture of old and young Lambic. The young Lambic is added to cause a refermentation in the bottle making for a delightfully sparkling and dry beer that has been likened, in all seriousness, to Champagne.

0.5l bottle - These lambics are a total assault on the senses. The pour looks great, a lot like Duvel. The nose, like a wet, yeasty dishrag is the first clue this is something else. The lemony, acidic flavors are powerful, your palate jerking around as much and as furiously as that woman at the start of Jaws. The rating is a little bit higher than I think it should be, but the love and care that goes into these lambics means to me they should rank higher. I am not ready.

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is golden. Aroma is fresh and citric. Bitter acidic finish.

03 bottle. Poured a hazy orange with white head. Aroma of barn, funk, and some wood. This is my first gueuze. Tastes very acidic and tart. Flavors of funky old barn and cheese, herbal notes, lemon, and some sweetness. Dry and sour. Probably because of my inexperience with this style I found it fairly hard to drink.

Cloudy orange-copper body with a large white head. Pleasant aroma of old barn & old wood. Taste is a bit of a letdown. Red apples, some hay and even a light cardboard note. Medium acidity and medium sourness. Some unwanted (to me) sweetness seems to attenuate everything. Unusually soft body for the style. A soft and mellow gueuze for the masses. Lacks the aggressiveness of other gueuzes, but then it would be a Goon Gueuze.

(Bottled) Hazy golden color with a medium, bubbly but lasting head. Almost sweetish, fruity-earthy aroma. Fruity, very acidic, moderately tart and dry flavor with wheat and hints of honey. Dry and acidic, but also a bit syrupy palate with lively carbonation. A quite easy but balanced gueuze. Too acidic for me, but yeast makes it much smoother and more enjoyable.

500 ml bottle, from BevMo LaJolla. Pours medium amber, slightly hazy with a fluffy white head. Dry and champagney aroma, wet wool, along with herbal and floral notes - like a damp, flower speckled hillside in Golden Gate park. Astringent and puckering, funky with sour fruits, little to no residual sugars, lemon peel, cedar bark, quince and bitter herbs. Light body and tingly carbonation.

Gueuze is still hard to rate. I dont know if I like them or not. They are too special. Looking great, amber, a bit unclear, big white head, big bobbles, lasting and lacing. Sulfur and acetic acid is real preasent in the aroma, sharp. Flavor is bitter, no sweetness to mildend the impression. Palate is a bit thin.

bottle. Aroma: dustiness, light yeast, white grapes, lemon, some cheesy funkiness. Appearance: Deep gold in color and clear. Head was off-white, full and rocky. Some clumpy lacing. Flavor: Nice sourness up front with a bit of lemon in the taste. Strong woodiness. Some hay and grass with some light funk. Palate: Light bodied. Lively carboantion. Finish was almost champagne-like in its dryness. Overall: My first gueuze in quite a while, and my first one rated here. Pretty nice overall. Nice sourness and funk. Good dry finish. Maybe not for everyday, but this is a good champagne replacement.
