Commercial Description:
Geuze, a mixture of old and young Lambic. The young Lambic is added to cause a refermentation in the bottle making for a delightfully sparkling and dry beer that has been likened, in all seriousness, to Champagne.

04.18.06 355ml bottle dated 13.12.2022, 12347 A08, enjoyed at Eulogy. Hazed pale amber color with small and quickly fading white head. Aromas are funky, footy, cheesy, and a bit on the musty wood side with touches of peach and white grape. Deliciously mild lambic with hints of sweetness, lots of fruit, and woody astringency without being to acidic. Was in the mood for sour and this hit the spot.

The aroma is wild yeast and is like a barnyard. The appearance is a hazy tan gold with a large head. The flavor has a stinky cheese quality to it. It’s sour and bitter and massively yeasty. The palate is average. Not my thing but it is not poor quality.

I’m not really a fan of Gueze and this beer will not change my mind. Its got a real astrigent bitterness than probaly goes well with certain cheese and dinner but not by itself. The tartness overpowers every thing else.

Clear yellow color, white head. Acidic to sour scent, some sweetness. Very sour taste, lemon aftertaste, also a bit sweet and metallic. Some grapeskin bitterness. Lemon notes. Medium mouthfeel.

(Bottle - Brewing season 2002-2003) Pours hazy brown/orange with huuuuuge white and fluffy head, unfortunately quickly disappearing though. Massive and very dry citrus (grape fruit / lemon) notes dominate this beer. Carbonation is strong yet soft, and champagne alike.

Overall really good..

Pours deep gold with a huge head and tons of effervescence. Excellent Gueuze aroma of apple, pear, wine, wood, funk, horseblanket, pepper, brine, and a hint of urine. I’m sure I missed something in there. The flavor is disappointing, watery, and slightly tart. It starts with light fruit and then turns grassy. Here’s where I expected the funky tart attack I got from the Oud Beersel Gueuze; it didn’t come. In its place the mediocre flavors of the beginning and middle waned and were finally eclipsed by a stale grassy aftertaste. Not Boon’s best.

Bottled. An orange coloured beer with practically no head. The aroma is crisp and dry, very much like a sparkling white wine, but there is a little funk setting in as the beer warms a touch. The taste is very tart and acidic. No real softness or depths of funky flavour like I would have liked. Needs more depth to compete with the most serious gueuzes.

Hugely excited to see a Boon beer in Richmond, first time in many years that I’ve run across one. Medium to light copper, remarkably stable creamy head. Persistent little bubbles. Aroma of horseblanket, barnyard, wood, wine, and apples. Initial sourness on the tongue, although not overwhelming, fades into flavors of horeseblanket, cheese, and cider vinegar. Nice stuff, glad it is here, quite nice overall.
