Very sharp sour flavor and aroma. Nice small effervescent bubbles. Pale gold color with a couple clumps of sediment. Actually pretty clear considering it had a secondary fermentation in the bottle.
But the sourness is the dominant feature of this beer. Let it sit on the tounge and mellow and you can tell it is lactic acid. It fades to a softer creamier note, almost a vanilla, as opposed to a sour citric acid taste. (While drinking this, I thought it might be a good beer to turn around some young’un swilling that lemonade beer stuff.)
Would I drink this beer again? Maybe. I’m not particularly experienced with Gueueze or even Lambics. I’d like to explore the style a bit more. I’d probably drink this beer with a strong sharp cheese and fruit. Actually, it is an interesting alternative to a white wine. They don’t really taste at all alike. But they satisfy in the same way.

I purchased this for a friend who said he liked champagne, and I never tried it. Cork was a mother fucker to get out. Transparent light copper color with a small head that fades away rather quickly. Smell is sour and a nice funk aroma. Burnt wood and slight cheese aroma. Nice aroma, but not very complex or nuanced. Fairly pungent brew. Taste is a short-lived sour funk. Sourness lasts quite some time. The beer doesn’t have a complex flavor. Some charred wood in the flavor as well. This beer is fairly carbonated, and a nice Gueuze if you ask me. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 14, 2009 Pours a nice blonde color with a good head and good lace. The aroma is corky and funky with great oak character. The flavor has a bit of lemon rind and general fruit rind bitterness, the acidity is pretty well controlled but very plesant. The beer is sour and has a kind of new oak character. This is a easy drinking Geuze, and I could likely drink it every day... I wouldn’t mind that. Vaiz (112), Netherlands
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 8, 2009 Pours a hazy orange color with a very thick foamy head. Sour aroma of citrus, apple, leather and earth that stings the nose a bit. Taste is very dry and bitter and very carbonated. There are hints of several ripe fruits. An interesting taste, but I think this is not really my style. Decent long bitter finish though. danielst (150), Vienna, Austria
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 6, 2009 Updated: Dec 13, 20092006-2007 vintage: This has developed aromas of ripe Granny Smith apples, white grapes, lemons, hay and farmyard, but not in an overly aggressive manner. Just slightly hazy, pale golden in colour with a bright white head that seems to last forever. Pithy flavour, like eating a lemon’s outer layer. Definitely sour, but not mouth-puckering and pretty bitter. I taste hints of herbal hops, alcohol and wooden barrels as well. A bit disappointing, flavour-wise. tlind2 (604), Helsinki, Finland
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 26, 2009 375 ml bottle. Golden color, huge airy white head. Sour, fruity aroma. Tart flavor with lemon and blackcurrant leaves, malty background. Surprisingly light body for the ABV, high carbonation. Pretty nice for the style. floydian1 (287), FNQ, Australia
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 21, 2009 Corked 37.5cl bottle (best before year of 2028). Slightly hazy deep orange pour with a huge dense white head that reduced slowly to a very stable collar of foam that laces well. Aromas of Brettanomyces yeasts, oranges, lemons, apples and damp wood. Flavour is tart orangey citrus fruitiness with a wonderfully dry bitterish finish. Medium bodied with a lively carbonation but still very easy to drink. It is less harshly acidic and smoother than the Cantillon geuzes. An excellent lambic. PJClarke (708), London, Greater London, England
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Nov 17, 2009 Bottle 2006-7: A slight haze to this sandy, golden ale. I find it a little brash in its sourness in the aroma. It lacks most of the delicacy I look for in a good gueuze. Over fizzy with big wood/hay flavours and a petrol dominance. Not much of a sourness to it, especially compared to the aroma. No bite here, I don’t like one bit. TET (241), Finland
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 14, 2009 Slightly cloudy, golden beer with huge white head. Overfermented fruits, bananas and sourness in the aroma. Same elements can be found in flavour, fermented fruits, strong suorness, dry and long aftertaste. Quite easy and refreshning to drink. For me this style is quite strange and sourness surprisess, still this taste better and better. Maybe I will correct the points later.
