| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 20, 2009 The first time I tried this beer (on tap at the brewery) I was incredibly underwhelmed and would have rated it around 2.5.. tops.
Chance would have it that I got a second taste of this beer. This time on tap at the beer joint in Margaret River (cant remeber the name). Oh.. my.. god. What a difference. The aroma oozed of juicy passionfruit and sweet sweet mango. These NZ hops are completely rocking my world right now. There’s a hefty punch of bitterness with enough malt to bla bla bla..
This beer is all about these completely world-changing hops! I never want to lift my nose from the glass.
The only downside, obviously is that this brewery is horribly horribly uneven. Get the beer fresh and it’s positively angelic, otherwise it’s meh at most.
Truly amazing!

| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Jun 21, 2009 Bottle - looking over my tasting notes I made no mention as to where I actually found this. Anyway, it poured golden with a medium white head. I had trouble detecting much of an aroma. It’s big on malt and has extremely light floral hop notes. The flavour is sweet malt, biscuit and, if I think hard enough some light, citrusy hop flavours are there, albeit hiding well in the background. It’s sort of like those Where’s Wally books I had in my younger years, you know he’s hiding somewhere at the carnival and if you strain your eyes for long enough you’ll eventually find the bastard. The body is good - a solid malt backbone and crisp mouthfeel but there’s just not much going on in the way of flavour, it’s actually quite bland. I’d like to try this again at the brewery one day as I’m sure it would hold up a lot better and fresher. But until then I won’t be rushing to pick up another bottle.
