Dark bread, cherries, plums, caramel apples, herbal (lemongrass?), grape kool-aid, paprika. Very fruity in the flavor. The cherries and grapes come out strong. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbaontion. Quite smooth, though perhaps a bit dry. A nice surprise and a great deal on a tasty dubbel. SwedeDog (364), Windsor, Connecticut, USA

Well, if I thought the Bornem tripel poured like ginger ale, then the double pours like root beer. Well, maybe not. It’s actually a beautiful pour. Dark burgundy, nice head and great lace. Rather weak aroma. If you try hard, you can smell some candy sugar and metal. Not much else. Not bad, just not much. Very silky mouthfeel. I was rather surprised by that. Not very complex, but it doesn’t try to be. At first, it’s a little metallic with some dark fruits. As it warms it gets really sweet, like brown sugar and molasses. It’s better than the triple, and I might even consider going back for another. lordwunjo (46), California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 8, 2005 Nice dark caramel color. Nice long lasting tan head. Good fruity smell. The taste is initially sweet with a crisp enjoyable aftertaste. Recommended. stubby (326), Santee, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 6, 2005 Almost like an English brown. Lacking the compexities of most abbey dubbels. Still, some redeeming qualities of luscious malt and quenching effervescence. sloth (1677), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 6, 2005 Received from DeGarth, Thanks Joe! XL, tight beaded tan head, excellent retention with minimal lacing. Clarity is good, chestnut colored. Nose is pleasently fruity, raisiny, bananna and a light yeastiness. Body is medium, soft mouthfeel. Lightly sweet malts, bready, dark fruit flavors, plum, raisin with a touch of doughyness. Finish is almost dry and fruity. BT (85), Newtown, Connecticut, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Sep 3, 2005 Poured reddish brown, like chestnut, with a huge frothy head that last forever. A bit sweet and yeasty aroma, sweet flavor, some bitter and metallic finish, but the mouth is too thin, watery. Malakin (465), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 31, 2005 Dark brown with a big foamy head. Aroma is pleasant but subtle. Flavour is malty spicy but not too interesting. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 30, 2005 bottle-pours a hazy brown hue with a sudsy beige head. a considerable amount of funky yeast here in this beer. nice notes of cinammon, clove and dark fruits. this is much better than the tripple. lots of nice red apple flavors with some notes of grape skins as well. as for thie trippel, this beer is not over-carbonated like some people have stated. i would say this is a solid dubbel.
