ElGaucho (1721), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Sep 14, 2006 I’ve never had a beer that smelled like this. After looking at about a dozen other ratings, I think Irishboy summed it up best: "spiced apple and some tartness". There’s also a funkiness that’s hard to describe. It’s a mix between stale leather, stone smoke and sweaty socks. Hazy gold with a huge frothy, white head. Artistic lace. As cbkschubert said, couldn’t pour the whole bottle into the glass because the head was so big. Dried apple profile. Very dry for a 9% tripel. Not flawed, however. Would make for a good summer refresher, but at 9%, you’d only want one! Not a bad brew. Has some unique qualities, but just doesn’t cut it when there are so many better tripels out there. Loses key points for aroma. Simply not overly flavorful.
blutt59 (685), Dallas, Texas, USA Aug 27, 2008 bottle, golden color with seafoam head, nose is sweet fruit, flavor of lemon, melon and alcohol, sweetish finish omhper (10456), Stockholm, Sweden Aug 18, 2008 Bottled (as Maerlant Damse Tripel), thanks KimJohansen! Clear golden, minimal head. Aroma of honey and vegetables. Sweet and fruity, boldly malty and overcarbonated. An aggressivevegetable flavour ruins it completely, and it followed up by a harsh resiny bitterness. Defreni (482), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 9, 2008 Flaske. Meget parfumeret lys trippel. Kæmpe skumhoved der virkelig er flot. Fin karbonation på trods a dette. Smagen er en kende for parfumeret. legion242 (1520), Richardson, Texas, USA Aug 3, 2008 Big, towering head that faded slowly. Pretty dark yellow color. But a very pedestrian tripel overall. travita (737), Lewisville, Texas, USA Jul 29, 2008 Golden and clear very carbonated with a big white head. Smell is alcohol, banana, bubblegum, and yeast. Taste is weaker and a touch off, yeast and alcohol.
