Michigan brewer’s fest, Ypsilanti, Michigan, Juillet 2005. Aroma very sweet candy sugar with some fruit in the background, banana and peach. flavor is very cloying sweet like straight candy sugar with a warming alcohol presence. Tone it down it would score great, but as is I can’t drink more than a couple ounces. Rerate from the MBG ’06. Aroma has developed quite nice. Huge candi sugar sweetness with some floral notes. Still very hot but more rounded than last year. Bumped the score .6 altogether. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA

Reddish-amber with a lasting touch of white head...nose a fascinating mix of herbs with a touch of underlying caramel sweetness, rosemary and thyme amidst roiling doughy yeast...very very sweet body, honey-maple character at first, herbs coming in though covered in sugar, towards the end dryness, peppery alcohol and lots of bready yeast implode on the sated tongue...worked for me, fascinating. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jul 28, 2005 Beautiful shining burnt orange-amber body wears a nice lasting beige head. Extremely sweet nose of dried apricots, lemon juice, a large spice array (anise? coriander?). Extremely juicy nature thanks to a syrupy and almost flat palate. Worty palate follows a rather complex peachy, woody and floral nose. Burning aftertastes is a mere shadow of the fruit juice complexities. Overall candyish and sweet. So Strong.. Hazy amber hue with a creamy head and very good lace. The aroma has a big sweet nose of candi sugar, banana, watermelon, caramel, and noticeable alcoholic vapors. The taste is well, AWFUL! Taste like a cough drop followed by a cup of heavy sugar water. I get no hops and even the fruity character is slammed to the background. Any Belgian yeast nature is equally masked. Unlike the Imperial Stout, I detect the alcohol in this a lot more. The feel is sticky and lush, warming but on this day that isn’t needed. One of my two drain pours of the day. Just like the Vintage Ale, too much sweetness and too in-your-face Pailhead (2597), Allen Park, Michigan, USA

Reddish-orange with no transparency and an off-white head. Candy sugar sweetness is a little too much. Light banana and moderate apple. Alcohol is noticeable in the finish in both flavor and warmth. jtw (943), farmington, Michigan, USA

Poured a large sized foamy ivory head with fine-small sized bubbles that completely dissipated. Uncarbonated, hazy and a brown hue. Malty and alcohol aroma. The flavor was malty and alcohol from start to finish. Smooth palate. Medium bodied beer with fair lacing.
