Commercial Description:
BO’s “North 51 Pale Ale” version of an American-style Pale Ale is designed to be a full-flavored version with an assertive hop character from start to finish. The English Ale and Caramel malts combined with an English yeast provide a warm, toasty, caramel, and fruity flavor base for the generous additions of American Cascade and Columbus hops which make a terrific match with such dishes as Blackened Chicken Sandwich, Buffalo Wings, Fish & Chips, And Asian Noodle Salad With Salmon. BO’s North 51 Pale Ale has a calculated ABV content of about 5.75%.

On tap at the brewpub on 4/27/06: Pours a clear bronze with a nicely lacing airy white head. Fresh citrusy hoppy aroma has a touch of sweet pale maltiness. Sweet light caramel malty body is well balanced with fresh piney and citrusy hops. A very nice APA.

Draft @ Bo’s: Hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Nice grapefruit aroma with caramel underneath and notes of peach. The flavor goes from a short caramel malt to a big hoppy flavor pretty much from the start. Nice bitterness at the end. Moderate length finish.

On tap: Light hop aroma. Transparent amber with a white head. Light malt up front in the form of caramel. Decent citrus hop finish. Relatively balanced. Seems almost likely a slghtly weak IPA.

Tap: light copper in color. Decent floral/citrus hop aroma. Flavor is weaker than aroma would indicate, has a little malt balance. Decent overall.

Tap. Medium amber in color. White head with good lacing. Floral hops in aroma. Watery body. Malt and hop balance seem to be in order. Body just falls out on this one.

I won’t rate too many of these pales because I just am not a fan of the bitter grassy flavor of them, but this one had enough acompanying sweetness to catch my attention.
