Commercial Description:
Our seasonal offering of our “classic” Scottish style ale. Unlike our Isle of Skye Scottish Ale, which has malty, roasty and hoppy notes, the main emphasis in this beer is on its malt character. “90 Shilling” is a traditional tax designation that indicated the beer was of the highest quality. Try this beer with roasted meats or cheese. Amazingly, it works well with some desserts, especially our Crème Brulee and Apple Crisp. O.G. 1066 I.B.U. 35

4/16/08 on tap at the Little Rock venue. Opaque brown with a small head and served WAY too cold. Little nose because of the temp.. Nice malty flavor, very sugary as they use raw sugar in the recipe. Low alcohol presence. Interesting and drinkable.

On tap, Nashville brewpub. Pours a murky ruby with meager soapy head comprised of mother-of-pearl bubbles. Smells like Rodenbach cherry and peat, overall sweet and syrupy (the cherry notes also remind me of Rose’s grenadine). This has a nice malt profile for the style: malty, smoky and a piquant bitter spice are the first impressions. It’s not rich and emersive, more cold, distant and hard. Reminds me of heather over granite: the smokiness and sugars with a light cherry fruit are distinct from a hardness typified by somewhat-metallic hops bitter and the peat in the finish. They seem to go together, but the one is not attached to the other. There is some mealy off flavor in the back on the finish which detracts a bit.

Sweet, very fruity baked tart aroma. Dark, but clear, brown. Excellent mouthfeel, a bit chalky somehow. Medium-heavy body. Well-bittered. Not as sweet as it smells. Tangy at times, a little roast, a good balance. Finish is peaty.

(Tap) Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma of caramel and biscuit. Taste includes dark malts and grainy notes. Roasted nut and toffee in here as well. Above average palate and average carbonation. Light hop finish. A very good beer!

A deep brown, almost black beer with garnet highlights. Has little aroma. Nice malty-sweet flavor with caramel, chocolate, vanilla and other spices. Has a smoky finish. Pretty good. The menu listed the O.G. as 1.070 rather than 1.066.

Draft at nashville. Pours dark amber with a wisp of a head. Not much aroma, perhaps a wiff of dark caramel. Very malty flavor of caramel, medium roast, and perhaps some very faint peat. Clean and mild pepper finish. Not bad, but I would love to see this one with a different yeast strain

Memphis. This beer was great with breakfast ribeye. Hints of a peppery aroma. Sweetness worked well with red meat.

Nashville. No aroma. Dark amber in color with excellent lace. Flavor is ESB-like. I really like this. Caramel notes and fairly high alcohol profile.
