hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA Oct 3, 2009 Draft at Nashville location. Appearance was a small tan head that expired rather quickly, transparent body with no visible carbonation, good amount of lacing, and a brown hue. The aroma of this beer was malt, lightly roasty and lightly smokey and crisp. Ditto for the flavor along with a thin taste to it considering the style. Smooth mouthfee and medium bodied. Different take on a stout IMO and one that I did not enjoy. No, it did not "work its magic on your taste buds" for me. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 3, 2009 This draft brew from a the brewery poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized off-white colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a transparent uncarbonated copper brown colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was malty. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of crisp hops nutty and brown malt. The label said swartzbieror black bier and if so was off-mark for one. As an ale it would be OK. An OK brew just nothing special. BMan1113VR (2755), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Oct 5, 2008 On tap in Little Rock. Tastes like a schwarzbier, not a stout. Pours with hazy, dark brown body with a layer of off-white foamy head that leaves great lacing. Aroma of cinnamon, brown sugar and malt. Taste is roasted coffee grounds, cinnamon and brown sugar. Water like mouthfeel. Light carbonation. Doesnt seem like a stout to me....Way to thin, and light with too many coffee grounds instead of instead of coffee beans. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Sep 14, 2008 Draft at cool springs. Nice clear brown with good creamy tan head. Dark malty aroma. Malty and roasty in the flavor, but as I have found with many of their beers, too much of a single hop profile. Some cardboard and hop in the finish. Kinda falls flat if you ask me, but not a horrible beer. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Aug 26, 2008 Draft at Cool Springs location. Dark brown in the glass with a creamy tan head that leaves a thin layer lasting and some lacing. Malty aroma of chocolate, coffee, and light roast. The flavor stands out slightly more than the aroma with much the same (chocolate, coffee). Some caramel present also with a light roast. Medium to full body with a mocha and light roast aftertaste. Very good!
