Commercial Description:
This American Style brown ale has a more distinct hop character than its English counterparts. The nutty flavor comes from the chocolate and crystal malts used in the recipe.

On tap at Memphis brewpub. Pours clear dark brown with creamy light tan head. Aroma is sweet malt, caramel and nuts. Flavor is caramel, nutty, brown sugar and sweet malts. Pretty easy drinking brown ale. Not to bad.

Draft at the brewpub in Hillsboro Village, Nashville. Pours a clear dark copper with a small tan head and leaves minimal lacing. Aroma of caramel malts, chocolate, toast. Flavor is more caramel malt and chocolate, with some syrupy sweetness and hops. Light bodied and dry. Not much to it. Not a bad beer, but doesn’t live up to the expectations of a brown ale.

Hillsboro Brown: Light brown-orange, off white head. Dull malt aroma, chocolate, caramel. Taste is malty,sweet, nutty, light herbal hop finish. Downtown Brown: red-brown, beige head. Aroma is sweet malt. Taste is sweet malt, chocolate, caramel. 6:3:7:3:11 Midtown Brown: Red-orange, off white head. Aroma is caramel, chocolate sweetness. Taste is sweet, burnt sugar, caramel, light fruit and nuttiness. 7:3:7:3:12

Draft sample at Boscos Memphis. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average creamy off-white head that was mostly lasting and produced good lacing. Moderate roasted nutty malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium roasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Good drinkable brew.

On tap at the brewery in Franklin. Dark brown color. Roasty aroma. Definite chocolate taste mixed with a distinct nuttiness. Worth trying.

Overall: he who orders first sampler on saturday morning gets beer left in line friday night

Sample at the Nashville Brewpub. Poured a clear brown color with a foamy, one finger off white head. The aroma was sweet malt. Didn’t pick up on anything else really. The malt aroma was nice, but no other compliments. The flavor was malty with an earthy finish. The flavor was pretty pleasant, even though it wasn’t too complex.

Draft at Cool Springs location. (Listed as just Brown Ale on the menu but also the 2001 GABF Bronze Medal winner which after searching the GABF records is the Midtown Brown) Brown in the glass with a frothy off-white head that had a thin layer lasting. Sweet malty aroma. The flavor found toasted malts, nut, and hints of cherry. Medium body and sweet.
