Commercial Description:
Flashback Anniversary Ale is an India Brown Ale with 6.8% ABV. This is the first beer we’ve made here that uses one single hop variety (Cascade) in the recipe in five separate additions. The fresh Cascade hop aroma and flavor is perfectly balanced with the dark roasted grains, making Flashback a very unique beer. We’re calling it an India Brown Ale to help illustrate its flavor to the consumer. It’s hoppy like an IPA but dark and roasty like a Brown Ale. Put them together and voila! Flashback at its finest!

We at Boulder Beer Company are SO excited to announce the release of our 30th Anniversary commemorative beer...Flashback Anniversary Ale! Flashback will be available in 4/6/12oz cases, 15.5 gallon kegs and 5.16 gallon kegs. It will be available to ship beginning Monday, May 4th and will be available through September.

Paying homage to our roots and celebrating our milestone 30th Anniversary, we give you Flashback Anniversary Ale, an India Brown Ale single-hopped with five additions of Cascade hops. Citrusy with a prominent hop aroma, Flashback finishes clean, crisp and dry, with dark roasted flavors from the biscuit and chocolate malts perfectly complimenting the bountiful Cascades.

Flash back to 1979 and you’ll find two professors at the University of Colorado in Boulder longing for the full-flavored tastes of the British ales they had grown to love while traveling overseas. Testing the entrepreneurial waters with a little project called a microbrewery, they began brewing and selling a few of their own. There begins the tale of Boulder Beer Company, Colorado’s First Microbrewery. From the original Bitter, Porter and Stout recipes that founded our brewery to our exciting new releases, Boulder Beer continues to uphold our tradition of innovation in brewing.

Flashback Anniversary Ale is the 9th Release in our Looking Glass Series of specialty beers. Discover all of our award-winning beers at BoulderBeer.com.

I didn’t care for this beer...I liked the bottle version, but draft left much to be desired....Hop presence all but lost...all in all, it just tasted out of whack.............................................

On tap at the Mad Mex in Robinson. Volatile aroma at times. Much more than a brown ale. Strong and rude initially, more like an IPA. Alky is in yer face with barely any carbonation. Looks like pale lager in the glass with a thin creamy head. Long bitter linger after each slug. Way too much personality for this lager lover. Rather rude and crude.

On tap at Magoos. Really nice India Brown Ale, Modest Head, which fades quicly but some nice lacing, deep Amber, faint hops odor, but plenty of Malt and hops. Nice malty soapy finish.

12 oz. bottle to a shaker at Lunar Brewing. Copper brown pour with a light tan, foamy head and clingy, curtain type lacing. The aroma is roasted with a little toasted malt, hint of grain and mash, and a bit of sweet caramel and chocolate. The flavor highlights the chocolate malt and adds a strong hop bitterness. A nice, bitter IBA

Draught at WBF. Pours a reddish brown with a small orange colored head. Aroma is sweet... fruit, caramel, and a hint of hops. Flavor is also very sweet: chocolate and caramel sweetness gives way to a nice hoppy finish. Good beer.

Bottle. Copper pour with a short tan head. Aroma is nutty and chocolaty at first but reveals citrus notes, toasted malt, and light cocoa. Taste is stronger chocolate, nutty flavors, citrus fruit, light pine, roasted malt, cocoa, hop resins and light spicy hops. Body is medium-full and rather chewy. There’s some resinous/oiliness to it along with a lasting bitterness. Carbonation is smooth and near creamy. Ends with more hop resins, spicy hop notes, citrus juice and peel, cocoa, chocolate covered nuts, and roasted malt. Different and tasty but I think you go bigger for a 30th Anniversary.

Draft at Coles on Buffalo. Pours red brown with a thin head. Light citric hoppy aroma with some sweet malt. The flavor has some floral citric hoppiness, a roasty hint, and a lasting hoppy finish. Pretty good.
