Elwood (665), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Nov 7, 2009 Serving: 12 oz. bottle.
Appearance: "Hazy" dark amber color with a sizeable, off-white head. Good head retention and decent lacing.
Aroma: Evenly balanced with pine, orange, and caramel notes.
Flavor: Mirrors the nose to some degree with lots of hops giving pine, citrus, and a touch of earth notes and the malt giving caramel, a little toasted malt, and some fruitiness.
Palate: Medium carbonation with a medium mouthfeel and a medium-long, bitter finish.
Overall: A pretty decent APA. You can certainly do worse. Recommended. Vas19 (293), Maryland, USA Nov 6, 2009 Pours hazy brown/amber with a thick off white head. Aroma is strong floral hops. Flavor is a lightly maltiness with some woody hops The finish is roasted nuts. It’s decent but there’s nothing to exciting about it. CanIHave4Beers (835), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Nov 5, 2009 Even with a gentle pour half my glass was head with this one, it’s a nice solid head with good retention, normally that’s a good thing but this head taking up half my pint glass is just kind of sticking around not letting me get to drinking this beer... The beer it’s self is a deep golden almost orange color. I detect some pine, citrus, and light caramel notes in the aroma, this smells really nice. The flavor is far maltier than I expected from the aroma but it’s pretty tasty There are some light biscuit and fruity malt notes, with some hints of rosewater and pronounced alcohol. The hops are very present in the flavor as well, the beer is bitter with some grapefruit character and a light melon hoppiness. Something about this seems unbalanced, a bit too much alcohol is showing through here but I like everything else that’s going on. potbeercollege (254), Boulder, Colorado, USA Nov 3, 2009 Bottled. Thickly hazed amber with off-white head. Aroma is dryhopped out of control, but fairly straight forward and one-dimensial. Flavor is sweet citrus and light hops. Dry finish, actually dry throughout. good brew. zdk (188), New York, USA Nov 3, 2009 bomber: I thought that this was going to be an IPA (or at least a bitter APA). TThe dry hopping gives the arouma and taste a great floral character that I’ve only experienced with IPAs before. I thought it worked beautifully with this beer. Coppery amber, large sweet caramel flavor and finishes with a touch of hops. Doesn’t kick your pants like an iipa, but it has the same smooth mouth feel and thirst quenching goodness. Very impressed! bsjay (54), Oregon, USA Oct 27, 2009 I like my piney, fruity, grassy hop action and - though I didn’t pick up as much on the "unfiltered" aspect of this one - I thought the balance with the malt backbone was as good as it gets for Boulder. alagnak (296), Littleton, Colorado, USA Oct 27, 2009 Nose is fresh and clean pine hops with a touch of wet earth and soaked peanut shells in there. Flavor starts off really well, a nice caramel malt quickly cheated on by a quiclk resinous hit of floral hops. Falls apart on a watery finish. Overall, an easy drinker that would be a good session beer, but pretty pedestrian. redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA Oct 23, 2009 Big piney hops on the nose with grassy notes. Pours slightly hazy golden amber color with a thin white head. Earthy bitterness with grapefruity notes, very hop forward for a pale ale, some caramelly bready malts underneath. Not bad.
