Commercial Description:
Rockies uses a combination of two-row pale and Baird's crystal malts to produce this medium-bodied red ale. Nugget hops are added at the beginning of the 90 minute boil primarily their bittering contribution, while Willamette hops are added in the middle of the boil for both bitterness and aroma. David uses Cascade hops in the whirlpool to give Igloo its subtle, hoppy nose. He uses a proprietary yeast strain and won't divulge what secret spices are used during the boil to give this red ale its Christmas zing! Original Gravity: 15.0 Initial Bittering Units: 27

Bottled. Nice easy drinking beer. Had a hint of spice, couldn't put my finger on it. Had worse had better.

Coppery gold in color. Stinky spicy aroma. Flavor is worse with nutmeg and allspice and (gasp!) bits of acid reflux. A spicy mess.

2002 Re-taste – Reddish brown color, medium head. Aroma is malty and slightly spicy. A medium bodied red-ale. Malts are mild and sweet. Spices are nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice and ? Hops are bright and spicy. Very drinkable winter ale, a little thin when compared to others, but still very drinkable. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is mild and smooth. Aftertaste is spicy and malty sweet. ------- brown color, small head. Nicely roasted malts, lightly hopped. Nice toffee flavor. Finish is mild. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, very malty.

The beer pours a crystal clear deep garnet color, the head personable, the texture is frothy, the lace in fine clinging sheets, both a light tan in color. Nose is malt, hints of caramel, and even a slight whiff of the hops. Front is malt, the top middling. Finish is curtly acidic, the hops biting in their spiciness, dry long lasting aftertaste. Drinkable, but the body is a bit thin or watery, which detracts somewhat from the overall enjoyment. Ranks #857 on my current 1000 beer master list.
