| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 26, 2002 Chocolatey spiced aroma: nutmeg and cinnamon. Bright amber-brown, with med dense beige head, OK retention, light lacing. Spicy chocolatey flavor with just a little metallic hint. Generally sweet up front. OK for a spiced ale. Lightly bitter finish comes on a little suddenly. Slight integration problems - except as it warms things meld together a little better. A good example of the importance of proper serving temperature. Aubrey (2778), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 13, 2002 Yellowish head with a bright red -- almost orange -- hue. Allspice and cinnamon are most dominant in the flavor, although it seems like they added some other spices from the rack. Has a little "peppery" and "hot" sensation too. Rich and sugary malt complements the chewy and zingy hoppiness well. Carbonation seems just a wee bit high, making for a thinnish body. Nice flavors though, and spices are not overwhelming. hopscotch (5531), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 4, 2002 2002 bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown,
mostly lasting. Body is dark amber. Aroma is lightly malty
(caramel, cookie), lightly hoppy (flowers), with a prominent note of allspice, hint of clove.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, heavily bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Very bitter for a winter warmer, which is actually kind of nice but it’s a little overboard for the style. The malt and hop components don’t add up to much in the aroma, but it is generously spiked/spiced with allspice (although they don’t list it as an ingredient on the label, it’s pretty obvious), which is expected in a brew of this sort and admittedly pleasant. A bit thin and not especially warming, though. Puss Gutt99 (206), Oldtown, Florida, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Feb 4, 2002 Some roasted caramel sweetness in the aroma. Somewhat dark red color. Filtered. Lively carbonation and head. Dark, fruity malty flavors meld with the light spiciness rather nicely. Unexpectedly nice, creamy mouthfeel. Rockies Brewing beers that I have had by and large have a pronounced hop bite at the end; this one does not, and it is a pleasant surprise. Very smooth palate and finish, which is a bit long and has some nice fruity hops and more spices for the aftertaste. This is much better than I was expecting overall. I really do like a good winter beer, though, especially in wintertime. Note: let this warm to about 50 degrees or so for maximum potential.
