Commercial Description:
Traditional winter seasonals are warm and comforting - not this Penguin. Diving in at around 10 percent alcohol by volume, Killer Penguin uses over twice the malt as other winter beers, and is aged for over 6 months to perfect the condition and flavor of this barleywine style ale. This beer doesn't ferment, it hibernates, and wakes up with an attitude.

bottle from Kingdom Liquors - 2006 bottle - thin tan head, pretty malty and small hops, pretty well balanced and didnt taste the alcohol that much - very enjoyable!

Sampled at Broudys Holiday Beerfest,Jacksonville FL 12/2/2006. Good barleywine flavor with some sweetness and caramel. Fairly high octane, which I always appreciate. Not great, but good, and better than expected for Boulder.

2006 bottle. I should have let this one rest for a while longer. Was a good blend of hops and malt. A good transition beer if you are not used to barleywines.

Bottle 2006 at Cock & Bull, Sarasota, FL. Poured clear amber with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Heavy toasted tart citrus and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium balanced flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Drinkable not great beer.

2006 Bottle. Pours ruby red cranberry with an aroma of strawberry and peach wine. Notes of strawberry, raisin, and plumb round out the taste. Coats the tongue like a thick cough syrup. Not bad, but needs a tad more assertiveness; relatively tame barley wine.
