Commercial Description:
Traditional winter seasonals are warm and comforting - not this Penguin. Diving in at around 10 percent alcohol by volume, Killer Penguin uses over twice the malt as other winter beers, and is aged for over 6 months to perfect the condition and flavor of this barleywine style ale. This beer doesn't ferment, it hibernates, and wakes up with an attitude.

Deep orange copper color. Boozy nose, not many hops. Very malt forward so i am guessing it’s english style. Grapefruity in the finish.

Nice Barley wine - nice an sweet up front, lots of caramel and toffee, and finishes with a fairly significant hop bite. Its tasty, definately, and surprisingly easy to drink. Sampled at Springslicker’s Fish Fry.

Bottle shared with barrios and Clear ruby pour with fair off-white head. Massive caramel aroma. Lightly bready, light sweet fruit. A little hoppy, with raisin, and a pine finish. Well masked abv. Sweet ass bottle and a reasonable price.

Pours slightly hazy, brown with light tan head. Nose reminds me of dark berry pies, some birthday cake icing, and faint hops. Palate is very malty sweet, creamy raisin flavors, and finishes sweet and tart without a lot of alcohol warmth.

2007 bottle. Pours copper, beige head. Aroma was heavily malty and sugary. Taste, sweet, caramel, brown sugar, dark fruits, malts with some light roastiness. Light apple finish, overall mouthfeel has plenty of warming alcohol.

Thanks retorp for the share of an 07 bomber. This is a nice barley wine, and surprising from Boulder. Pours dark brown/ red with an off-white head. Nose is booze, raisin, vanilla, malt, brown sugar, and slight hops. Flavor is similar, but more noticeable hops in finish and raisiny vanilla. I liked it quite a bit.

Bottle shared by Oakes and Beershine. Pours a very nice amber color. Some apple juice, honey, malt and some hops round out the nose. Flavor is sweet with a good balance of hops. Well done bw for sure.

Bottle. gorgeous deep amber color. Honeyed fruits aroma. Rusty apples. Mead-like. Flavors are burnt apples, raisins, bread crust. Toasty and sweet with a sufficient dose of hops. Much better than expected.
