Mostly grapefruit with a boozy finish. Not the best but still solid. ucusty (1908), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 5/5 | 9/20 | Jan 31, 2009 Draft at Rattle n Hum. Silky, creamy head, a great looking beer. Surprisingly the aroma is more cotton candy than hops which I was expecting. The flavor even more surprisingly isn’t very hoppy (at least not in the way I like my IIPA’s) as it actually tastes like cotton freakin candy. Hey, watch Southern Tier make a cotton candy beer next. This stuff is a bit boozy once you get past all of the residual sugars. A real trainwreck with some orange finally peeking through. This beer was just released and just tapped so storage and conditions aren’t an issue. I expect so much more from "Colorados Oldest Microbrewery". Damn it. Bigsilky (322), Charleston, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 31, 2009 Beautiful beer. Not as hazy as I anticipated. Excellent amarillo hop nose. A precise balance between grapefruit zest and pine resin. The palate entry is soft at first with warm orange marmalade and builds in richness. Hop bitterness is well asserted but in remarkable balance. Never once does the hop out-do the malt. Probably the best balanced impy ipa I’ve ever had. Another layer of cisp citrus complexity unfolds with the finish as the alcohol finally makes and appearance and drys the mouth leaving a wholesome hop linger. Refreshingly this is not a tongue wrecker. This should rate a lot higher, make sure you’re getting a fresh sample. biggmike (480), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 27, 2009 Poured a slightly hazy medium orange color with decent white head that stayed a while. Nice resinous hoppy aroma that produced notes of pine and citrus. Flavor was also pine/citrus hops, but was balanced by the maltiness. Mouthfeel was pleasant. I was surprised at the alcohol content of this one, as it was hidden well. Nice beer.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 26, 2009 Grapefruit, caramel sugar, and pine tree sap in the nose. Sticky caramel and toffee malts, fresh grapefruit, citrus, bitter hop flavors. A nice mix of bitter and sweet mouth texture. Not a real complex brew but very enjoyable. Alcohol felt by the end of the bottle. Good stuff. kiefdog (1631), Tampa, Florida, USA

Binny’s Orland
Mojo Risin’ pours a surprisingly clear deep golden that glows orange when backlit. Large carbonation bubbles rise here and there while small bursts of carbonation bubbles rise everywhere else. A standard pour produced two fingers of dense white head. As the head slowly fell it became craggy and incredibly creamy leaving sticky sheet lacing down the glass. This is an excellent looking IIPA.
Mojo Risin’ smells like a caramel laden brew but that caramel has a very nice hop profile that steps up and takes the lead. Brown sugar coated grapefruit leads the hop assault but there’s a touch of ripe pineapple and orange peel that play off each other very nicely. This hop profile combines very well with the hefty caramel malt backbone and creates an almost candy like aroma.
The flavors seem to meld together more then the aroma suggested, sometimes to the point of being muddled. Orange and brown sugar coated grapefruit hit upfront and last throughout. There’s a touch of pineapple and orange flashing here and there. All the citric hoppiness is drizzled generously with caramel. When I get to the end of my glass the spicy alcohol becomes more apparent with some heat in the back of the throat.
I like the mouthfeel of this beer. There’s a certain chewiness from the residual sugars left behind in this 10% beast. The body is on the fuller side of the spectrum with both the heat and hop presence making their impressions felt on the tongue and throat.
This drinks a little like a barleywine. Heat, hops, and a big malty presence make this a sipper but it’s a beer with which I could sip the night away. Although the flavors are big none of them get in the way.
Mojo Risin’ is a solid IIPA from Boulder. I appreciated their Mojo IPA and this is an enjoyable brew as well. Like I said above it, at times, drinks like a barleywine. I could see myself picking this up again.
