Beer looks to be filtered, no yeast or sediment and the clarity is excellent. I do have to wonder why you would filter a IIPA. Aroma is perfumey hops, with floral notes and some caramelly, biscuty malt. The nose seems somewhat restrained to me, though I have had some congestion lately... The taste is certainly not lacking in the hops, which come across as herbal, grassy, and floral with little to none of the citrus this hop seems to exhibit. There is a light honeyish malt backing but the malt seems to stay in the background. Nice mouthfeel, alcohol is not apparent, but the bitterness is, although it comes across as fairly smooth and clean, as Amarillo always does. You can do a lot worse than making an all Amarillo IIPA, but the beer has nowhere the complexity of flavor that I was looking for. I’ll drink another IIPA tonight to see if it was me or the beer. Pours a small light head with small amounts of lacing. Alcohol is not a strong factor. This is not my favorite double IPA but it is very tasty. Worth trying for sure. Some floral hops, faint grapefruit hints. Ok body and decent carbonation. A round hoppy flavor with easy citrus notes. Slightly sweet in an average finish. jsquire (2113), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 1, 2008 Murky golden beer out of the bottle with a frothy egg shell head. The nose has an odd likeness to pennies and grapefruit. Flavors of candied orange rind, old grapefruit zest, apricot, apple sauce and pine. The alcohol presents itself in the finish. It seems somehow muddled though. There are a lot more interesting IIPAs out there. a10555 (125), West Chester, Ohio, USA

If not for the alcohol content, I could use this as a session beer. Great stuff. Metalhead (571), Lake Zurich, Illinois, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 20, 2008 (Bottle, thanks Degarth) Pours a light amber orange colour with a small off white head. The aroma is hoppy with tones of grapefruit, dried herbs and resin, malty with tones of toast, cookies and hints of caramel. Fruity and sugary undertones of almond paste, dried apricot, dried banana, mango, starfruit, canned pineapple and canned pear. Hints of flower water. Some alcohol warmth in the nose. The flavour is fruity, toasty and cookie like malty, resiny and grapefruity hops with a late medium bitterness. A nice and discrete sweetness balances the beer well. The mouthfeel is clean, round, a bit sticky and a bit watery. The aftertaste is of toast, fruits and bitter, grapefruity hops. Medium full bodied. A very drinkable, very fruity but maybe a bit too friendly IIPA.
