Commercial Description:
Only 120 precious barrels were brewed, adding more than half a ton of extra malt and twice the amount of Amarillo hops, so prepare your self for a full sensory explosion. The double dry-hop addition elevates the grapefruit-like aroma and flavor to an outrageous intensity, while the added malt raises the alcohol level from 7% all the way to 10% by volume.

ours a very slightly hazy deep amber under a tall light beige head. Resiny aroma with a very sweet edge. Cloying sweetness which seems artificial and a high flying hop profile which is mostly out of balance. Average texture and a long, very sweet finish. I’m a hophead and IIPA fan but this one is too fractured and inconsistent for my tastes.

Bottle. Pours gold with a substantial long lasting white head. Some brussels lace stays on the glass. The aroma is hoppy and citrusy with grapefruit, lime and cotton candy. It is very full in body, very smooth, with a little hop bite. The taste is very hoppy, quite sweet and less fruity than the aroma.

Bottle poured a clear golden color with a nice white head. The aroma was pungent hops, alcohol and some caramel. The flavor had a strong alcohol note right from the start followed by bitter hops. Not the best double IPA, maybe if the alcohol was toned down the hops might stand out better.

22oz bottle. Vintage unknown, but probably 2007. Mostly clear golden colored body with a small white head, moderate amount of lacing. Sticky honey, herbs and cheese-like hop notes in the nose, some grapefruit perhaps but it’s wrapped up in the honey hop scent. Do I like it? Sure, but I do notice when warmed and swirled that it releases some grainy malt extract syrup aromas. Light bite up front, then a rather large explosion of fizziness over the middle, with some pretty banal honey malt and amarillo hop notes. Palate is a bit too assertive, especially in back, where is becomes more coarse and rough when swallowed. Overall, though, a decent beer to drink, but I can easily get a half dozen double IPAs I’d rather drink.

Lighlty hazed, golden/peach-y hue...1/4" of creamy head holds guard on top... Lovely aroma: pine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, a small bit prickly, but just right, as far as I’m concerned. Taste: BAM! Big blast of bitterness, great splash of hops, then fading, leaving some bitterness in the back of the mouth, staying on the tongue. Long, bitter finish, but flavorful...terrific balance, this isn’t all hops and nothing but, nice, juicy malt base...delicate, and delightful, but juicy, too..Medium-bodied, but long on the hop flavor. I eschewed the bottles I saw on sale, knowing I’d be able to have this on tap in a convenient venue...(???)...it’s a nice Double IPA, not among the fiercest, but somewhere in the middle tier, I’d say. Still, a treat to drink, and easily downable, without too much of a threat from the 10 % abv. I give higher marks to DIPAs with huger hops, bigger bitterness, and massive mouthfeel...this is very nice for being not one of those.

22 oz bottle. Pours a yellow golden color, medium sized head that dissapears pretty quickly. Fruity aroma, grassy, but not big enough for a double IPA, very dissapointing. Flavor is similiar with addition of florals and a malty backbone. A bit light mouthfeel, with a weak finish, however, the alcohol is well hidden. Not enough hop flavor that I expect for an IIPA. I think this is a good IPA (not double), and I believe this beer is overrated. Just not bold enough for an imperial IPA.

nice orange/yellow body with a bubbly white head that leaves thin webbing on the glass.aroma is a nice mix of ivy, juicy fruit gum, pine, citrus, and a malty backbone.the flavor doesnt bring out the hops as much.i pick up more bitterness and alcohol than anything else.

A great addition to the looking glass series. A heavy and potent IPA that has more body than most double IPA’s. A lighter head than expected, still quite a good brew to sit down with. The alcohol does creep up on you. A good earthy taste.
