Commercial Description:
Only 120 precious barrels were brewed, adding more than half a ton of extra malt and twice the amount of Amarillo hops, so prepare your self for a full sensory explosion. The double dry-hop addition elevates the grapefruit-like aroma and flavor to an outrageous intensity, while the added malt raises the alcohol level from 7% all the way to 10% by volume.

22 ounce bottle. Pours a lightly hazed yellow orange with a white head and plenty of sticky lace. Surprisingly, the aroma is mostly crystal malts, and some bread. They hops do not pop much at all. Same with the flavor. This beer is nothing that I expected. Hopefully its just old.

This is one phenomenal IPA. As soon as you open the bottle and breathe in deeply you are transported to a citrus wonderland of bursting ruby red grapefruits. It’s ever present with its deep orange body. The first sip is an understatement as its not till the 2nd or 3rd sip that this beer really takes over your palate with its medium IPA bitterness. It’s smooth as it rolls over your tongue and then it wallops your pallet with its double serving of hops. This is one IPA i would love to have in a 6 pack.

Draught at Which Brew. Deep amber body with nice head. Hoppy aroma, soapy. Taste is sweet, nice hoppiness to it, nice bite, spicey. A little rough at first but decently smooth. Enjoyable. 10% undetected.

Pours out a nice copper color with a decent head. Hoppy, citrusy aroma. Nicely balanced taste. While it is very hoppy, there is also lots of malt to help smooth things out. This is a very drinkable DIPA.

Bottle - pours a light orange coppery with a white foamy head. Aroma of citrus fruits with apricots as a stand out and a spicy & malty/bready quality as the beer warms. Initial flavor is caramel and toasted malt with herbal/citrus hop flavors dominating to a light spicy resinous hop finish.

Pours with an almost brilliantly clear, amber hued, bright copper color that sits underneath a frothy, pale tan colored head that when poured vigorously produces a four-finger thick head. The aroma is nice and fruit with notes of apricot, orange peel, lychee, perhaps a touch of pineapple. Underneath the up front hop aromatics is a nice malt character, though you have to dig for it; dry, biscuit-like malt notes and notes of crushed soda crackers join a distinctively clean bread-like maltiness.

Despite its strength, the beer maintains a nice quaffable quality to it. It is a bit chewier than your average IPA, but has the requisite (at least in my mind) drinkability that is necessary for something with IPA on its lable. The beer has a light malt sweetness to it that perfectly accentuates the dominant, fruit driven hop character. Notes of apricot, candied orange peel, lychee and spectacularly ripened tangelos round out the fruit hop flavors. There is also a touch of herbal pine character here, that becomes more noticeable towards the finish and in fact melds with a sharp, slightly astringent bitterness. Even some malt flavors are noticeable; a light caramelized malt sugar note and a toasted-malty-biscuit flavor are definitely noticeable, especially in the finish.

This is perhaps not as hugely hoppy as some, but I really like how drinkable this Double IPA is. The malt lends a nice background of flavors, but ultimately supports the dominant hop character. In the end though, this could definitely use a bit more hop character, at least to satisfy the diehard hop heads out there.
