Commercial Description:
Only 120 precious barrels were brewed, adding more than half a ton of extra malt and twice the amount of Amarillo hops, so prepare your self for a full sensory explosion. The double dry-hop addition elevates the grapefruit-like aroma and flavor to an outrageous intensity, while the added malt raises the alcohol level from 7% all the way to 10% by volume.

Pours amber with a white head. Smells of citrus, resiny, earthy. Tastes bitter and resiny with some bitter citrus hints and a touch of honey on the finish.

Mojo Risin’ is a clear, sparkling, light amber ale with a small white head. The aroma is of pine cones, grapefruit and orange peel, resin and alcohol. It is medium bodied, smooth, and the finish is pretty clean. It’s quite bitter! There are flavors of pine tar, orange peel and grass. The finish is slightly sweet. There’s not a lot of finesse here, but it’s pretty exciting.

12 oz bottle purchased from Belmont Station, Portland OR. Snifter. Pours light red/orange, little head, very faint lacing. Still looks tasty. Not a very strong nose. Flavor made even less of an impression. Which isn’t to say that I won’t buy it again. Palate is solid. Not too light or over-carbonated. I like Mojo better.

Appearance: Pours a clear, orange-hued body layered with a full inch of off-white foam. Decent amount of lacing on the way down. Smell: Aromatic citrus-scented hop bouquet, a veritable platter of fruit, with lesser though substantial malt notes underneath. Taste: Pale malts along with sweetish tastes of honey and light caramel dogged by the zesty taste of citrusy hops providing plenty of citric tangerine and ruby red grapefruit and a moderate amount of hop bitterness. Tiny hint of pine. Little boost of alcohol arrives prior to the finish. Finishes dry and bitter with a long (though never tedious) aftertaste. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Just a touch of stickiness to the mouthfeel. Drinkability: I’ll come clean -- sometimes the use of Amarillo does it for me and sometimes is doesn’t at all. Thankfully, this was a case of the former. A good Double IPA that drinks fairly easily considering the ABV percentage.

12oz bottle from grape and gourmet. pours a clear, light amber/gold with a quickly fading, bubbly white head, with thin lacing. aroma is the highlight of this brew. very fresh hops with big scents of grapefruit, orange peel, spruce, peach, and a touch of sweetness. flavor was a bit of a let down after the solid aroma. very bitter throughout with big citrus and pine just barely balanced by sweet, almost biscuity malts. finish has a soapy, astringent nature to it that detracted from the overall flavor. mouthfeel is crisp with good carbonation but slightly thin for a DIPA. overall, a decent brew that just seems to be missing that final touch of class.

On tap at the Parkway in Tacoma. The keg blew as my beer was poured, so factor that in. Orange, slightly hazy color. Lots of pine and citrus aroma and flavor. Sweetness is almost overdone, as a bubblegum tang hits about mid-tongue. The alcohol was very well hidden. Plenty of hops here, but it’s not in the hop-monster class. The Amarillos have never impressed me much.
