Commercial Description:
Only 120 precious barrels were brewed, adding more than half a ton of extra malt and twice the amount of Amarillo hops, so prepare your self for a full sensory explosion. The double dry-hop addition elevates the grapefruit-like aroma and flavor to an outrageous intensity, while the added malt raises the alcohol level from 7% all the way to 10% by volume.

Pours somewhat clear medium amber, forming medium foamy head from 22 oz bottle. Aroma of grapefruit, resins, and flowers. Flavour is of caramels, a bit of grapefruit, pine resin and hop peppers. Not a bad beer, but doesn’t really strike me as an double IPA. A decent beer, more of an IPA though.

Bottle. Orange pour with a white head. Aroma of grassy hops as well as some piney ones...some pale caramel malt as well. Fairly malt in flavor with grassy notes coming through every now and again. Medium body with and earthy bitter finish. I think this is the most average IIPA I’ve ever had.OK

12 oz. bottle into sniffer. Crystal clear pour with a orange body with a brownish tint - its gets a 4 because of the unbelievable pillowy white head that leaves great lace. The aroma has more rich (almost barley wine-ish) malt character than I expected; of course, there are some nice citrus hop notes too. The flavor is more complex than I expected, in a similar way as was the case with the aroma - more malt character than expected. The hop character in the flavor is different than the aroma in that it is more piney than citrusy. Pretty thick and coating on the palate with smooth and soft carbonation. Overall: this brew really impressed me, and if you gave it to me without telling me what it was, I would be pretty confident it was a barley wine and not a IIPA. Either way, it was impressive and definitely worth trying.

Sticky IIPA. Standard, yet very nice-looking, copperish gold color and piny, not too citrusy, nose. This has the by-the-books long-lastingness of an IIPA yet it doesn’t really say much during its long set. Lots of promise, but little delivery. Most people here have this right, an empty yet big IIPA. Maybe I missed the boat, all should try, especially given what I think to be an excellent IPA in the normal Mojo.

THOUGHTS: I haven’t had many Boulder Beers, but I’ve like most of them. I liked this one too, but there was nothing special about it. It hid the alcohol, incredibly well at first. The flavor balance could have been a little better, but it was fairly well balanced. It got better and better as it warmed. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a light to medium orange, with and average to large, creamy, off-white head that left excellent lacing. The aroma was moderate caramel malt, moderate citrus (grapefruit and orange) hops and some alcohol as it warmed. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet and lightly acidic; while the finish was moderately sweet and heavily bitter with an average to long duration. There was caramel malt and then a bunch of orange and grapefruit hops. The alcohol come out much more as it warmed. The medium to full body was sort of syrupy with fizzy carbonation and an ever so slightly alcoholic and a metallic, but not harsh finish.

Very appealing appreance bright golden oragne, white head. Real crisp grapefruit hops. Not overbearingly bitter but definately crisp. Great taste. Well Done.
