Had a nice malt smell with a little space coming through. A nice smooth tasting beer. Could detect biscuity malts with a slighly hoppy finish. Very well balanced and very drinkable. tsarman (794), Northern, New Jersey, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 22, 2008 It never feels like summer when you are drinking this winter ale. I feel bad for Colorado, I guess. But, this was a good spicy winter brew. Malty dark, and a little bit hoppy. BelgianBeerGal (1309), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 7, 2008 Bottled. Dark brown, ruby colouring with a khaki head that dissolves quickly. Aroma is sweet, grapefruit hops plus choclate in the background. Flavour is more hops and nice bitterness. Very easy drinking winter beer and a nice play on the type. A medium bodied brew with a taste of hops, citrus, pine, malt, bit of alcohol, and a nice dry finish. Not what I was expecting but a nice tasting brew. Poured a copper color with a light beige head and rising bubbles. Aroma of hops, pine, and a bit of citrus. Spicey malt entry leads to a nice, but not powerful hoppy finish. A bit of grapefruit and pine peaks out at the end. Pretty nice beer that was better than I expected. andyhite (293), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 29, 2007 bottle. mahogany/deep amber pour with bubbly, yet thick foam head. the nose is of dry cascade hops, pine sap, orange peel, slight grapefruit, and a touch of wood (not oak). like velvet on the palate, it’s a smooth one all the way down. the other willamette and hugget hops shine through more in the flavor, and hit the back palate and finish. there is a sweeter aspect here to the flavor as well, likened to tangerines. overall, it’s good. perhaps a different take on the winter seasonal, but for the hopheads, it’s happily welcomed. i’ll buy it again at this reasonable price point. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 29, 2007 Clear ruby-copper with a moderately thick light khaki head. Caramel malt and a light touch of hops on the aroma. Smooth, malt-forward taste, very much like an ESB. Light carbonation. Very drinkable, but the spice was kind of hard to find. atpayne (615), Zionsville, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 24, 2007 Pours a nice reddish orange with little head, clear. Aroma is nutty carmel malts and a hint of a hop bitterness. It is predominantly malty, somewhat sweet but also definite nutty malt flavors. It also has a rather nice bitterness that along with a spice provides pretty nice balance to this beer.
