Nice lacing. Has a light toasted malt aroma. Has a light caramel malt flavor. There is something that gives you a slight mouth pucker. Can’t quite put my finger on it. Medium body. Decent beer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 8, 2006 Crystal clear light chestnut supporting a medium khaki head. Earthy aroma of herbs, toasted malt, mild citrus and pine resin. Nice balance of flavors with equal parts roasted malt and hops taking center stage in support of spices, caramel and a touch of smoke. Satisfying mouthfeel and a richly flavorful but still crisp finish. I’ve always been a fan of winter brews and this one is worthy of shelf space in the beer fridge. talon1117 (624), Bellvue, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 7, 2006 Deep, clear, reddish amber, with an off-white, average, somewhat lasting head with nice lacing. Nose is interesting to say the least; toasty caramel and berry with faint pine hops. Flavor is similar toasty caramel with a distinct berry character and nice pine hop presence with some spice noted but hard to put a finger on; bitterness is medium-light but lingers to the finish which is berry and bitter with pine and spice. Palate is medium in body, soft to lively, and somewhat dry. A nice easy-drinking dark red ale with distinct berriness and some spicey characteristics. Not your run-of-the-mill winter warmer, but interesting enough to give it a try. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Oct 27, 2006 Pour was brown with tan head. Nose was spices, yeast. Taste was caramel and spices. This was a wierd brew, and I did like that it had 6%. nick76 (2667), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 27, 2006 The aroma is sweet caramel malt with spruce hops and spices. The appearance is deep amber with a medium head that leaves lots of lacing on the glass. The flavor is sweet with toasted bread, citrus, and spices. The palate is smooth. The aftertaste is oddly bitter with toffee. A good beer but I could swear there was soap in there. Maybe rosemary (also soapy) is one of the spices in it. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 26, 2006 From a 12 oz. bottle with no freshness date.
Poured a ruby hued brown with a foamy beige head that settled into a thin lacing, minimal amount of ringed sticking.
Aromas of toasted grainy and caramel, pine, berry fruity and solvent-like alcohol.
Steady, moderate carbonation and a crisp, smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel.
Tastes of caramel, grain, powdery cocoa, piney and slight citrus zestiness, the hops have a soft, but brisk bitterness, a berry fruitiness and a dryish caramel mingled with pine finish. The alcohol shows up towards the end and has a solvent flavor, warming in the palate.
A nice winter warmer from Boulder, nice drinkability on a cold, rainy day.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Oct 20, 2006 Pours dark amber w/ a medium semi creamy froth that reduces to pancake batter bubbling in a skillet when you look at it. Aroma is nicely balanced w/ moderate caramel malt and slight hop flowering. Medium full nectar w/ mellow residual effers. This brew is well balanced. Caramel malt balanced by crisp asprin hop w/ a slight spicey citrus character. Highly recommended.
