Smallish beige head sitting atop. Spicy and malty. This is a bit of an odd one. The alcohol presence is upfront. Full mouthfeel, slightly fizzy. Different and not really to my taste, but okay. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 8, 2005 Pours dark reddish-brown with a medium white head and fizzy carbonation. Smells very malty with caramel, and sweet pine in the smell as well. Tastes kind of weak though but good, with a slight sweet tinge to it. Aftertaste is of medium length and has a sharp kick to it at the end considering the sweet nature of the beer. Good beer, underrated. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 30, 2005 Bottle. Nice dark brown body with a thin fading head that leaves a ring of bubbles. Notes of black pepper, malt, bitter hops, sawdust, and spice come through. Slightly bitter finish. Not bad. Kevin (1918), Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 30, 2005 pours dark copper with a thin grey head. aroma is molasses, spruce, some chocolate and alcohol. i could have sworn there was a grape jolly rancher in my mouth when i tasted this, but no it is just a strong grape flavor with a candy edge. some chocolate that fades to a bitter woody finish with some burning alcohol. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 27, 2005 Bright ruby, big tan head. Big malts in nose, some toffee, chocolate, and smoke. Flavor sugary and sweet with lots of cocoa, rich toffee, and plum and raisin. Bit too sweet, but quite good. arjoseph (594), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 14, 2005 12 oz bottle into tulip glass. The pre-taste stuff was good, but the meat of the experience was lackluster. Crisp, bitter, sprucey hops aroma with some caramel and buttery malt aroma. Glowing mauve-orange in the glass, not quite perfect clarity. Head was light brown like burnt sugar, foamy and frothy and fairly large, mostly diminishing to a spotty surface. Good lacing action and great sub-surface racing. The malt flavors were soft, like malt powder without chocolate flavor and a hint of caramel. Without any more body, the lack of malt assertiveness made the beer seem weak. Fizzy yet soft carbonation was nice. Delayed hops in the finish, the flat bitterness comes and goes quickly, leaving a oily and tangy acidity that was vaguely metalic. Fruit flavors were weak orange/ sugar cane/ passion fruit right before the finish. Not bad, but too uninspired and incongruous to be good. brewshthereen (316), Oregon, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 11, 2005 Deep reddish pour, thin sheets of lace that cling to the glass. Aroma of toasted malt and caramel. Somewhat candy sweet. Flavors of caramel, fresh bread, wood, and spices. Rather dry at the finish. A bit cloying and sticky, yet thin in the mouth. Very strange indeed. Palidor19 (1785), Brandon, Florida, USA

A must try
