Commercial Description:
Never Summer Ale is a bold new look at winter beers: gutsy, full-bodied and an aggressive fusion of secret spices. Like the first run of the day, this ale is deep and clean, crisp and drinkable, perfectly blended for a smooth ride...through the Looking Glass. Grains: British Dark Caramel Malt, U.S. 2-row Barley. Hops: Nugget, Willamette, Cascade and Top-Secret Brewmaster's Spice.

12oz bottle. Pours a light brown with a 1/2 inch head. Aroma of malt and caramel, with a touch of hop. Flavor is hop up front, with some malt character on the back end and a slight metallic finish. I enjoy beers with good balance, but this one does it too well. This beer has an identity crisis that’s keeping it from being much above average.

Draught. Low and quickly disappearing white head. Clear amber body. Honey caramel hops aroma. Soapy flavor with hops bitterness. High carbonation. Long aftertaste.

Clearish orangish brown pour with wispy off-white head. Sweet cane sugar aroma. Chocolate in the flavor, some hops. A bit of hop bitterness in the finish and a hint of cherries and cocoa. Not horrible, but I wouldn’t seek it out.

Poured a dark amber color with a two finger off white head. Aroma was of spices and caramel. Flavor is roasty with a heavy spice presence. Body is too thin for this type of beer. Good all around though.

Poured a dark caramel color with an off white head. Arma was of caramel, roasted malts, and some spices. Flavor was actually more spiced than the description describes, maybe some ginger?, also lots of sweetness and hardly any hops to back it up.

Pours a glowing red amber body in a tumbler with a short off-white head that settles quickly--almost the appearance of iced tea...nice barley and malt aroma straight away with the slight spruce and hops moving in late--with some spices too--nice balance! Smooth, mildly effervescent body that warms with each sip... somewhat fizzy... quite a malty ale with minimal hop balance belying its nose... quite an American approximation of the ESB? Brother Jer decided to select this as our "light" beer to the Yanks/O’s tailgate--whoops... that "never" implies a year-round treat..as such, not bad, borderlining as complex, but still holds to its basic caramel malts--the spices are too "secret" to move the beer into that winter beer genre...

Semi hazy amber with a medium slowly dissipating off-white head. Aroma of caramel, mild alcohol, hops and spice. Taste is more of the same with a spicy, piney bitter finish. Somewhat astringent too.
