Alcoholist (570), Peoria, Illinois, USA Mar 12, 2005 Reddish brown with a creamy head. Aroma is malt heavy with grapefruit and spices. Flavour is lightly sweet and spiced with a well hopped dry finish.
Dacrza (154), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA Aug 25, 2008 Pours a glowing red amber body in a tumbler with a short off-white head that settles quickly--almost the appearance of iced tea...nice barley and malt aroma straight away with the slight spruce and hops moving in late--with some spices too--nice balance! Smooth, mildly effervescent body that warms with each sip... somewhat fizzy... quite a malty ale with minimal hop balance belying its nose... quite an American approximation of the ESB? Brother Jer decided to select this as our "light" beer to the Yanks/O’s tailgate--whoops... that "never" implies a year-round treat..as such, not bad, borderlining as complex, but still holds to its basic caramel malts--the spices are too "secret" to move the beer into that winter beer genre... robforbes (709), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jul 30, 2008 pours a clear caramel with medium size dirty-white head, good lacing.
smell is of spice, pepper, nutmeg, touch of pine, caramel, malt hidden in the back.
taste is caramel, spice, roasted nuts, malt, very christmasy, weak on the palate, some pine. esjaygee (721), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Jul 27, 2008 Semi hazy amber with a medium slowly dissipating off-white head. Aroma of caramel, mild alcohol, hops and spice. Taste is more of the same with a spicy, piney bitter finish. Somewhat astringent too. pint_size (1004), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 16, 2008 7-13-08 bottle
Medium red amber with a good off-white head and nice streaked lacing. Smell is spiced nutmeg and hops and is a touch floral. Flavor is decent hops but is so light and subtle. Drinkable, but just not much to it. lb4lb (1365), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 13, 2008 Pours semi opaque with a big fluffy staying beige head. Smell is fruity, hibiscus, floral and pretty nice. Taste is very fruity, floral and gummy candy like, without the strong sweetness. Still malty leaning but lightly hopped, and very floral, fruity and tea like with a little bit of alcohol, I think, coming through as it warms a bit. I actually like this much more than expected.
