| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jan 11, 2009 As you’d expect, this is black, but with a thin head. The aroma is thin, smoky, moldy even. Very thin body for what I expected ... very thin ... light smoke, ash, bitter chocolate. Not much to it for a supposedly ’big’ stout. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 8, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, and alcohol. Flavor of bitter chocolate initially and then lots of crystal malt (apparently I’m quite sensitive to crystal malt). Ok beer but a little boring.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 8, 2009 Bottle, I guess about a year old since the new batch just came out, and this was not the new batch. Did not know and never would have guessed this was oak aged. Aroma quite chocolaty (semi-dark) with bitter coffee, roasted malt. Flavor again chocolate forward. Coffee finish. Full-bodied, strong malt and chocolate. Very good, especially for a beer that’s a year old. sirpsycho (349), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 24, 2008 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown/black, small tan head, minimal lacing. Aroma is subdued chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Flavor is more of the same, though the chocoalte and roasted malt dominate the profile. Never really picked up the oak notes anywhere along the way, but it did seem as though the oak may have mellowed out the bitterness in the finish. bretupdegraff (178), Fishers, Indiana, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 19, 2008 22 Oz bottle from Jimbo. Super nice nose of chocolate and espresso. Color is........wait for it...........black. Flavor is creamy, rich, but not overdone or burnt like so many other stouts these days. Oak is very very light, but still adds to the flavor. I really liked this one. radagast83 (1310), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
