tsarman (794), Northern, New Jersey, USA Jan 22, 2008 This was a strong stout, empirically speaking. Very chocolatey. Dark as the night. A little roasty. A little thin as well.
Indiana_Red (1444), Boise, Idaho, USA Jul 8, 2008 Bottle pours black with a lasting beige head. Light roasttted aromas with some chocolate. Flavor is sweet dark malts and a mild roastiness. Moderately bitter with some pine hops. Soft carbonation and a slightly light aaand thi body. BückDich (4484), Boise, Idaho, USA Jul 8, 2008 Bottle: Pours a black color with an off-white head and nice lacing. The nose is ripe and roasty with plenty of chocolate and cocoa notes, some oaky notes but I was hoping for more vanilla and less astringency, but that’s probably from bourbon aging I recon. The flavor is nice and roasty with a mild hop bite in the tail and subtle roast astringency. A creamy mouthfeel and flavor. Good oatmeal stout! drjay44 (76), USA Jul 6, 2008 Definately not a summer beer. Nose was OK, color fine, balance present initially, but quick finish. Only major complaint, a bit thin iin the mouth. lebshiff21 (9), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Jul 6, 2008 Aroma was nice, a bit oaky, caramel.
Pours dark, with a thin off-white head.
Malty, sugary, but too thin - the taste is fleeting.
Extremely earthy, doesn’t seem to balance very well with the other flavors.
Overall, just OK. buzzoven (67), Japan Jul 5, 2008 This one held some promise upon initial sips, but eventually just fell a bit flat. Taste is focused on the roasted elements...low in carbonation, slight malty backbone, subtle smoked chocolate flavours, but the mouthfeel is a bit thin and the balance just wasn’t quite hitting all the right buttons for me. I would drink it again, preferrably on a crisp autumn night.
