Commercial Description:
Planet Porter is a big beer for everyone. Don't be afraid of the dark; this beer is very drinkable and remarkably smooth, brewed for a malty, coffee-like flavor. A once almost extinct style of ale, Boulder Brewing helped revive the category and this is now one of the oldest American porters.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of cereal, toasted and strong coffee, light resin for the hops, light earth for the yeast, with tar and paper in the background. Head is rocky, light brown with excellent lacing and is fully lasting. Color is dark brown to black. Flavor is lightly sweet and acidic to start, and finishes lightly bitter and sour. Palate is medium, watery and a touch creamy, and has a lively carbonation. It finishes moderately astringent. A decent porter, but could’ve been a little more complex.

Bottle. Aromas of chocolate and roasted dark malt. Very dark brown color with a decent beige head. Near medium body with smooth, creamy carbonation. Dark roasted malt, a touch of coffee, a hint of sour. Dry, smooth, and just bitter enough. Leaves a bit of tingle behind.

Bottle, Pours clear dark brown with garnet highlights and a fading tan head. Cocoa aroma with a touch of pine. Light body, medium carbonation. Lightly sweet taste, with chocolate, coffee, nuts. Crisp finish that is lightly pine tinged, but not very bitter at all. Not a lot of depth here, but I don’t think they were aiming for that. This beer comes from the refreshing end of the porter world.

On cask at the GL. Pours a cola black with no head. Slight light brown bubbly formation. Aroma of faint malt and chocolate. Taste of faint malt and chocolate as well. Not very impressed. Flat and watery.

Not a bad porter, nothing extra nothing special, tastes good, not too much of anything, dominant caramel and chocolate flavours balanced well together, not too carbonater or bitter, quite a nice finish, medium body, pours down your neck fine, i’d for sure have it in a bar instead of usual lagers.

Creamy tan head on a deep brown body. Somewhat subdued aroma of roasted beans and dark chocolate. The body more than makes up for the soft aroma with heavy notes of smoke, tobacco, nut and chocolate. Smooth mouthfeel with a great nutty/sweet finish. Solid porter all around

Pours dark brown with a lasting tan head. Smells of chocolate, caramel, cocoa. Tastes earthy and slightly vegetal with some dark fruit present. Decent.
