Commercial Description:
Planet Porter is a big beer for everyone. Don't be afraid of the dark; this beer is very drinkable and remarkably smooth, brewed for a malty, coffee-like flavor. A once almost extinct style of ale, Boulder Brewing helped revive the category and this is now one of the oldest American porters.

Bottle... Clear, deep, very dark ale with flashes of burnt orange around the edges of the glass. Mid-sized, creamy, beige head. Good retention. Nutty, chocolate and vanilla aroma. Moderately sweet, moderately bitter, mildly acrid flavor with swirls of chocolate and coffee. Good roastiness. Medium-bodied with a skim-milk mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Finishes chocolaty, lightly bitter and dry.

This is a pretty nice porter. Not overly sweet, it has a good balance with a slight coffee flavor. Pleased.

Pours deep dark amber with nice mocha head. The aroma brings forth burnt malts, roasted malts, licorice and faint caramel. The taste begins smooth and neutral for a moment or two before burnt malts break things up. About midway the sweets enter with chocolate malts mixed with caramel and licorice. The beer ends roasty with lingering burnt malts. Nice Porter.

Pours opaque black, with a small head. Leaves a collar of foam around the rim. Aroma is faint, with hints of roast coffee. No hop aroma, very slight tartness. Coffee comes through well in the flavor, but not much else. Good balance, but a little on the thin side.

Pours smoothly, with a dark brown color. Very mild and bland aroma- hops not very noticable. The palate was decent and got better as the drink went on. Flavor was coffee-like and agreeable.

Porters were nearly extinct? Samuel Smith’s been making and selling Taddy Porter for, what, 250 years? Still, I don’t believe we should blame these guys in Boulder for too much hubris. They made a nice, rich, porter that, while a bit thin at the finish, serves very well. Nice job.

Pours a transluscent brown colour with a small, but dense tan head that fades to a spotty film. The aroma was of mocha, caramel, molasses and a subtle hop bitterness. The flavour brings out roasted malt flavours of coffee, caramel and vanilla with a hint of smoke. The finish is a bit watery, but as it warms, the duration of flavour becomes longer, leaving slightly bitter cocoa and coffee. I don’t see why this beer is rated as low as it is, especially in style. I’ve had much worse porters.

This beer pours an dark brown color with a nice think head to it as well as nice thick laceing along the sides of the glass. There is a nice woody vanilla smell that is very potent. As you drink it there is nice hoppy bitterness and some nice wood tones which acent it. AS the beer warms up you start to get some nice caramel malt and toffee on the sides of you mouth and on the palate. there is also some hints of coffee which are very strong initially but fade rather quickly. although it had a watery finish to it was still pretty good.
