Aroma is PNW hips, roast, soft chocolate and hints of coffee and caramel. Medium to light bodied with an acidic mouthfeel, the flavors are jumbled all over. The aroma was promising, but after that it was all downhill. Strykzone (1486), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | May 6, 2007 Very dark with some reddish highlights, this porter looks like a porter. There is very little foam or carbonation. Aroma is thin and no malt is noticeable. It is a distasteful one. Flavor is also muted but coffee, malt and roasted nuts are easily noticed. Flavor is much nicer than the aroma and is reminiscent of a classic porter. Pailhead (2602), Allen Park, Michigan, USA

Bottle: Nice aroma of chocolate, caramel, light roasted malt, and a hint of smoke. It pours a dark brown with faint orange hilights and a minimal beige head that quickly fades to a ring. The flavor is light chocolate and caramel up front with a light roasted coffee finish. Overall the flavor is rather light. The mouthfeel is a little thin with minimal carbonation. extremeicon (108), Wichita, Kansas, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 4, 2007 Thin and watery with an unimpressive and short-lived white head. First impression was surprisingly hoppy for a porter though that taste eventually faded into muted coffee with a hint of...ham? Aftertaste unpleasantly bitter; a poor example of the style. cheapdark (2026), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | May 3, 2007 Updated: Dec 31, 2007Planet porter, pretty catchy name. Must be a planet on a boulder. 12 oz brown bottle from 3 sons in Wexford, cost was $2. Smooth chocolaty aroma, the kind of smell when you mix powdered Nestle Quick into milk. Taste is a little more Baltic than that. The aroma just lures you in, the taste is more bitter and burnt roasty. Tastes like a higher alky beer than what is listed here. Dark nearly opaque brown and a darker alabaster head. Head eventually fades to a girdle on the inside of the glass. Not quite as enjoyable as Yuengling’s Black & Tan. Tho a medium length finish, it at first comes on with some tongue back malty bitterness that is kinda hard to ignore. Mrthirstyneck (341), Minnesota, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 7, 2007 Bottled. Beer is very dark, warm-brown colored, nearly opaque. Head is initially tiny, beige, frothy, immediately retreats into a ring.

The aroma is malty with light notes of roasted grain, coffee, dark chocolate; Hoppy with a moderate note of resinous pine; Yeasty with a light note of basement; Light note of smokey peat and garden soil.

The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately bitter, moderately acidic with a long, lightly acidic, lightly bitter, lightly sweet finish.
The body is medium, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively.
A bit too bright in the mouth, too burned-smelling to the nose—hard to reconcile.
