Commercial Description:
Planet Porter is a big beer for everyone. Don't be afraid of the dark; this beer is very drinkable and remarkably smooth, brewed for a malty, coffee-like flavor. A once almost extinct style of ale, Boulder Brewing helped revive the category and this is now one of the oldest American porters.

Bottle poured a clear dark brown [nearly black] with a large lasting amber head. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee and a hint of chocolate. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roastiness and milk chocolate with a smooth finish.

on tap-pours a light brown head and black color with red tint. Aroma is chocolate-dark malt. Taste is chocolate-dark malt, dark caramel. Some hops. OK carbonation.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a finger of beige head, chocholate notes as i pour. Toffee, chocolate, coffee smells. Not really to much exciting about the flavor, hints of both the chocolate and coffee, but thats about as far as it goes. Medium mouthfeel.

bottle. Chocolate and lightly earthy aroma. Taste is light chocolate, somewhat thin on the palate.

Bottled. Poured a clear deep brown with a nice initial cap of creamy lighter-brown head that diminished after a short while. Nose was solid... almost chalky burnt cocoa, roasted coffee, and other dark malts were in there. Flavor and palate were not so enjoyable... watery entry leads to an odd, sharp effervescence at the tip of the tongue (seemed more like carbonation than bitterness)... dark malts from the aroma are in there, but are tacky and non-descript... finish had some metallic and sour notes to it.. not at all satisfying.

Smooth. Not too thick. Not as heavy as I would like a dark beer of this type to be. Okay.

Big blast of chocolatey malts is pleasant initially, but lacks any roasty edge or hop bite. One is nice, but a bit boring.

The aroma is heavy with chocolate and brown sugar, there is also yeast and cream in there as well. The appearance is dark brown with a medium tan head. The flavor has vegetables as well as coffee and burnt malt but almost no chocolate. The palate is smooth but not as thick as it should be. I am not crazy about this porter.
