Commercial Description:
Planet Porter is a big beer for everyone. Don't be afraid of the dark; this beer is very drinkable and remarkably smooth, brewed for a malty, coffee-like flavor. A once almost extinct style of ale, Boulder Brewing helped revive the category and this is now one of the oldest American porters.

bottle. Very dark red, near black with a tinny tan head on top. The aroma is strong of malts, predominately that of toffee, coffee, and chocolate. It seems there’s a bit of sour vegetation as well, though. It is a little awkward in flavor as well, finishing strongly of cola and a buttery note. The only thing that saves this are the more typical porter characteristics which hang around, though the bready notes aren’t bad either. This is not really a winner of a porter.

completely black color with medium tan head. the aroma reveals some black coffee, dark chocolate, and some molasses and toffee. The flavor consists of mild coffee, dark chocolate, and some toffee. theres also just a little carmel malt. kind of boring and has a flat soda palate.

Pours a dark brown with a small head. The aroma is malty, but mild. A bit of milk chocolate, no roast. A touch of molasses. The flavor is a little on the thin side and this definitely is a more traditional version of the porter. Easy drinking with low bitterness and no burnt malt flavors.

Pours dark dark brown with medium tan head. Roated malt and chocolate aroma, with some coffee. Earthy flavor, some roastiness. Very thin for a porter. grimreeser doesn’t know what he is talking about.

Slightly odd but appealing aroma, strong in grape and watermelon. The flavor is much more roasted, with milk chocoate and smoke like bread burning in a wood oven. Tingling carbonation. Certainly drinkable, not bad overall.

Pours dark brown with burgundy highlights supporting a fairly dense, but short-lived tan head. Nice aromas of dark roasted malts, coffee, caramel and chocolate, but they’re quite restrained. Palate starts out moderately full, smooth and creamy, but seems to thin out quickly. Well balanced flavors of coffee bean, dark chocolate, roasted malts and some faint molasses with just the right amount of sweetness followed by some mild hop bitterness. Somewhat quick and thin in the finish which was a bit disappointing. A solid porter, just a bit tame and meek.
