| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | May 16, 2006 Pours a dark, brownish red; looks fairly thin and watery. Aroma is roasty with coffee, molasses, and chocolate. Flavor is light; the initial flavor is sweet and nondescript, but it tapers into some chocolate and light ash flavor and finishes with some light vanilla and roast but not much else. Very thin for a porter. The individual parts are actually not bad, but on the whole this is just an unsatisfying beer. schwaiger (90), Laramie, Wyoming, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 14, 2006 Don’t know why this has been rated so poorly. There is nothing wrong with this porter; in fact, I thought it had a lot going for it. Not terribly complicated, but a smooth, yummy brew that goes down without a thought. Easily a session beer. Poured black with a frothy, small head that mostly diminished. Decent lacing. Aromas of roasty caramel, muted chocolate, and sticky buns. Flavors of cocoa and coffee. Lightly carbonated with a good, creamy mouthfeel. No bitterness to speak of. Easily gulpable. Looking at the score (44?) I was almost hesitant to try this. Bah. One of the best local porters I’ve had in a while. I will buy more of this, drink it, and bite my thumb at those lackluster souls who agree that this is not an 70 or 80-something beer. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 12, 2006 Very dark brown, essentially black. Pours with nearly no head, just a silent fizzle and a thin chocolate-brown ring of foam that immediately disappears. Hershey chocolate syrup, moderate roast, and smokey aroma, actually quite robust and nice. Earthy flavor, lots of coffee, some dusty grains and bittersweet cocoa. Mild-to-moderate carbonation level. Slightly metallic (copper) finish. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 4, 2006 12 oz bottle from gputty. Deep brown with a tiny ring of brown for a head. Pleasing roasty coffe and chocolate nose. Then you taste it. Why, oh why did the nose tease me so bad? No flavor to speak of. Weak. ehhdayton (1115), USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 4, 2006 The pour is black with a tan head. The head is slighly fizzy and of moderate duration and lacing. The aroma is slighly choclatey and coffiesh. Flavor has both chocolate and mild roasted coffee with a moderate finish. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 1, 2006 Old Chicago Pizza, Roseville, Mn. - 12 oz bottle. Dark black pour, thick, creamy mocha head. Pleasant earthy aroma, coffee, chocolate. Flavor has more of the same - not too sweet though - just the right amount of bitterness. Some good roasted notes with just the right amount of chalkiness. Mouthfeel is slightly oily - in a good way. Adds to the creaminess and thickness. Really enjoyed this one. beerbill (1985), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 30, 2006 12 oz. bottle. Poured black with a moderate tan head that barely lasted halfway through the glass. Aroma is predominantly roasted malt aroma. The flavor follow suit and is mainly of roast malt. Maybe a touch of coffee in the flavor. Mild hoppy finish. It bit less robust than what I think of with a porter. Very drinkable. gputty (456), Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA
