Holding it up to the light, you can see through it at the bottom and the sides and it has nice red highlights. Bitter hop aroma. Wasn’t expecting this from a porter. Had some roasty notes to it, but way too much hop. The hop taste was a bit much for the style as well. Very bitter and floral with the slightest touch of burnt chocolate malts at the end. Less hops in a porter is a very good thing. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Nov 18, 2005 Aroma is roasted malt and chocolate with a hint of coffe. Dark brown with an ample, bubble mocha head. Somewhat tart finish follows a roasty base that is more chocolate than coffee flavored. Palate is entirely to thin. eboats (889), Omaha, Nebraska, USA

Watery body even more so considering the style. Flavor is weak but includes coffee, toasted bread, and some cookie dough. I don’t get much chocolate flavor out of this one. Flavor is roasty, smokey malts with caramel and coffee in the finish. Mild hops presence. A pretty average porter. yayforbeer (648), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 6, 2005 Pours a dark brown to almost black with an ok tan head and a bit of lacing. Aroma is musty with some chocolate. Flavor is not bad, with some mild chocolate and coffee. It has the bit of sweetness that I didn’t get in the Rogue Mocha Porter, but everything else is second rate. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and the finish is a little sour. Its an ok porter, just doesn’t stand up well to a really excellent one like the Rogue I just finished. Average but drinkable. Picked up a single at Broudy’s, Jacksonville FL. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Sep 27, 2005 bottle-pours flat black with barely any tan head at all. char aroma with some dark chocolate as well. flavors are dominated by char with a hint of roast and a heavy dose of oxidization. palate is thin and lacks carbonation. no finish to speak of. maybe i got an old bottle, but as it is, this is a terrible porter. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 25, 2005 Decent sized off-white head covers a dark brown hue. Typical dark malts flavors show shy in flavors from the nose and it’s a continuing pattern once in mouth. You can smell the roasted grains, but there is certainly a lack of focus, the rest are barely hints at coffee graininess, faint chocolate etc. Very thin in mouth too, you could mistake this for a lager. Quite unremarkable.
