Commercial Description:
Planet Porter is a big beer for everyone. Don't be afraid of the dark; this beer is very drinkable and remarkably smooth, brewed for a malty, coffee-like flavor. A once almost extinct style of ale, Boulder Brewing helped revive the category and this is now one of the oldest American porters.

Decent sized off-white head covers a dark brown hue. Typical dark malts flavors show shy in flavors from the nose and it’s a continuing pattern once in mouth. You can smell the roasted grains, but there is certainly a lack of focus, the rest are barely hints at coffee graininess, faint chocolate etc. Very thin in mouth too, you could mistake this for a lager. Quite unremarkable.

The Lure:
Caramelizing molasses over dark fruit. A few rooms away though.

The Festivities:
Agreeable roastiness clinging on to the prunes and dates. All is soft and lacks confidence, ending on a stale note with accompanying dryness. One amongst many others.

Transcendence:
The stars deserve more than this.

yhis was the last beer from a 12 pack sampler - and it was the best! Dark rich malty favor. And just as the description promised - very drinkable with a perfect coffe finish.

Bottle (12oz). Poured a lively dark brown with a large light brown foamy head. Aroma of mild musty dark roasted malt, creamy milk chocolate, some dark fruit, slightly sour with a touch of smokiness - quite a mild aroma, but pleasant. Flavour is also mild, bitter without the bite, blend of sour cider and mild dark roast malt, some rhubarb, faintly resiny. Mouthfeel is astringent and way too livley and light for a porter - flavour evaporates off the tongue before you can quite identify. Not bad, but only as a patio-porter.

12 oz bottle - Pours pretty black with a decent tan head that doesn’t stay long. Aroma is of campfire smoke, roasted malts, and a bit of chocolate. Typical porter tastes on the tongue. Some sweet chocolate, a bit of coffee, some peat, maybe even a little wood. Quite earthy. A decent hop finish appropriate for the style finishes this one. Mouthfeel is highly carbonated but medium bodied. Easy to drink. Not the most flavorful porter on the planet, pretty average in all aspects..

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark black with ruby highlights around the edges when held up to the light. Not a whole lot of head, and it disappeared quickly to a very thin skin of foam. Aroma is pretty nice, heavy on the roasted black patant malt, and somewhat yeasty. Mouthfeel is borderline awful, very thin with tons of fizziness. I couldn’t taste the beer until after several seconds beacuse it just kept fizzing up in my mouth. Flavor is pretty lacking as well, rather thin and one dimensional (black patent). Finish is a mix of cardboard and coffee. Maybe this is a little old or something, date and batch number (I’m guessing) on bottle neck is an illegible smudge. I really like porter and this one is not good.

New to Florida!
Big black body with edges of crimson. The aroma and flavor are raw and earthy… which I liked. Mild hints of coco and coffee, peat, oak, compote… I view it as a session porter with a delicate hoppy dry finish.
