Commercial Description:
Planet Porter is a big beer for everyone. Don't be afraid of the dark; this beer is very drinkable and remarkably smooth, brewed for a malty, coffee-like flavor. A once almost extinct style of ale, Boulder Brewing helped revive the category and this is now one of the oldest American porters.

It’s black. It’s opaque. It has a creamy head. This looks like a pretty good porter. It has a promising aroma of malt and coffee. Solid roasted grain flavor with overtones of chocoloate and coffee. Good hop balance. Nice aftertaste. Subsequent sips seemed to be a bit watery.

First impression: Watery with only hints of sweet malts and smoke. A little chocolate, perhaps. Lots of fizz. My first impression didn’t change by the end. This just seemed too thin to raise it above average.

Draught. Pours black with brown hints and a small tan foamy head and creamy lacing. Dark sweet chocolate aroma with coffee notes. Sweet smooth dark chocolate and bitter coffee flavor. Dark and silky smooth full bodied palate.

12oz bottel. Poured brown with red highlihts. Fizzy brown head. Looks good. Smells like a good porter, has all the caramel and chocolate, but the taste was way too carbinated and way to lacking. Had some good caramel and roasted flavor up front, but weak and watery to finish. Re-Rate, lots of awful smokiness in this, that I missed the first time, Yuk.

Pours dark with a medium tan head that lingers for most of the drink. It starts out with a burnt wood flavor followed by a chocolate finish with hints of carmel and coffee. The carbonation is just right. I really liked this porter but the current rating of 38 seems low to me.

Bottle. Dark brown hue with off-white head. Medium aroma of malt and coffee. Medium body and creamy texture. Small porter flavor with short finish. Below average porter.

Creamy tan head on a deep brown body. Somewhat subdued aroma of roasted beans and dark chocolate. The body more than makes up for the soft aroma with heavy notes of smoke, tobacco, nut and chocolate. Smooth mouthfeel with a great nutty/sweet finish. Solid porter all around - why the hate?

Deep brown, tan head. Chocolate and coffee are the main players along with some sweeter molasses. Mild roast pokes around as well. Medium bodied. I wouldn’t have thought this was rated so low.
